First Aid Tips for 4 Common Makeup Accidents

Unfortunately, beauty can be literal pain. From mascara mishaps to unexpected allergic reactions, knowing some basic first aid tips can really come in handy on your journey to flawless makeup.

So here are 4 tips for a start.

Cuts or Abrasions

Accidentally nicking yourself with a makeup tool or scratching your skin with a sharp edge is unfortunately pretty common. Still, getting a little cut or abrasion doesn’t have to ruin your day, but it does mean you need to take some quick steps to avoid any trouble.

First, you want to rinse the wound with cool water to wash away any makeup residue or dirt. Next, dab on some antiseptic cream to keep things clean and speed up the healing process. Then, don’t forget to cover it up with a waterproof plaster or bandage.

Skin Allergies

Sometimes, our skin just doesn’t agree with certain makeup products and so allergic reactions like redness, itching, or swelling happen. When your skin starts acting up after applying makeup, it’s a clear sign that something’s not right. But don’t worry, there are ways to deal with it.

If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, like redness or itching, you really want to stop using the product right away. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any leftover makeup, then apply a cold compress to calm things down.

If the reaction is really bad or it doesn’t go away, it’s a good idea to get some medical advice as soon as possible.

Eyelash Glue Mishap

Applying false eyelashes can be tricky, and sometimes you end up with a bit of eyelash glue where it shouldn’t be – like on your eyelid or even in your eye. And getting eyelash glue in the wrong place can be irritating, uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous.

So, if you accidentally get eyelash glue on your eyelid or in your eye, don’t panic. First, gently dab the affected area with a clean tissue to remove any excess glue. If the glue is on your eyelid, you can use a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to carefully wipe it away. If the glue gets in your eye and causes discomfort, flush your eye with lukewarm water for several minutes to rinse it out.

If irritation persists, you want to seek medical advice immediately.

Eyebrow Tweezing Mishap

Too many times, tweezing your eyebrows can mean accidental slips or over-plucking, enough that there’s pain, redness, and potential irritation. Really, you want to soothe the affected area with a cold compress to reduce swelling and inflammation.

If the pain persists or if you notice any redness or swelling, get a professional’s advice.

Truly, applying makeup isn’t the easiest thing to do, and getting hurt is far from uncommon. Fortunately, there’s plenty you can do, such as these first aid tips!
