Guide to Pregnancy: How to Feel Pretty When You are Expecting

Pregnancy is an exciting time for many women who have always dreamed of starting their own family. However, as many mothers will tell you, the experience is not always rainbows and butterflies.

While your child grows in your belly, you may experience some aches and pains, parts of you will swell, you may gain weight, stretch marks may appear, and acne may flare-up. Although you are counting down the days when you can finally meet your firstborn, on certain days, you will not feel beautiful.

Many pregnant women, unfortunately, lose their confidence during pregnancy as their bodies go through changes.

You still deserve to look and feel good during pregnancy. Here are some things that you can do to make you feel better.

Calm Your Skin

Some women will experience a surge of pigment-stimulating hormones that result in large patches of discoloration on their faces during pregnancy. Hormonal changes will also increase the secretion of a substance called sebum which will lead to pimples and acne. Most will have sensitive skin.

You can get a whitening toner or moisturizer to address uneven skin tone. You should also start using sunscreen with high factor protection against UVB and UVA.

As per acne, you should stay away from AHA- and BHA- based products since both can make your skin more sensitive. Experts advise using products containing azelaic acid which is good for sensitive skin.

However, be careful about which products you use. Opt for products guaranteed to be safe for pregnant and lactating women.

Stay Active

Being pregnant should not stop you from getting ample physical activity every day. The movements you can make may be limited, but exercise is still important to keep your body healthy and strong.

A daily morning walk is a good way to exercise without the risk of injury. You can also do yoga, but get an instructor who knows the poses you can do that are safe for you to do. During pregnancy, strenuous exercises like running and sports, should be avoided. Talk to your healthcare provider to ask for advice.

Exercising will help you maintain a healthy weight and keep your joints nimble. It will also prevent gestational diabetes.

Play with Maternity Fashion

Make an effort to get all dolled up every time you have to go out of the house.

Do not feel bad if your favorite pair of jeans no longer fit you. There are really cute clothes out there that are made for pregnant women. You do not have to wear leggings all the time. Wear flowy dresses and skirts. The wrap-style dress is comfortable and flattering for women with baby bumps.

Do not forget to take outfit of the day (OOTD) photos so you can inspire other moms-to-be to dress up, too.

Get Off the Scale

You are growing a child in your belly. It is only natural for the numbers on the scale to go up.

Pregnancy is not the right time to obsess over your weight. You have to take care of your health, but do so not by controlling your weight. You should eat healthy and balanced meals and exercise every day to keep your body strong for your baby. Your weight will only upset you. Focus instead on doing what is best for your baby.

Despite these tips, there will be days that you might not feel like yourself. That is okay. If you want to wear sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt, do it. Stay at home and rest.
