Legends have told us that people have long searched for the fountain of youth. This begs the question: “Is it really that important to look and stay young forever?” There are surprisingly a lot of benefits and advantages to looking young and gracefully embracing your age.
For starters, a youthful look enhances your appearance. It boosts our self-esteem, gives us energy, and enhances the way we feel about ourselves. It’s surprisingly beneficial for our mental health, too.
It also makes us look healthier and friendlier. This helps in social situations and even at work. There are many more perks coming from this. For example, you are likely to get away with things more easily. You can also impress others and appear more desirable.
There is so much you can get just by appearing younger. But how do people achieve this without paying thousands of dollars in cosmetic treatments and operations? Here are some practical ways you can age gracefully.
SPF, SPF, SPF
SPF stands for sun protection factor, the degree to which your sunscreen can protect you from the sun. The first step you can do to age gracefully is to apply sunscreen generously and religiously. You need to use the right amount every day and reapply at least once every two hours if you’re out and about.
Sunscreen is essential because the number one aging factor comes from the harmful rays of the sun. Ultraviolet light is damaging to our skin. It zaps its elasticity and even changes the very DNA of our skin by damaging the cells in the deeper layers.
In other words, you don’t only get a tan by staying under the sun-you also age faster. The result is you get sunspots and wrinkles. The worst part is you can even get skin cancer.
All of these don’t mean you have to stay away from the sun. You can still enjoy it, but make sure to apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF. You have to use sunscreen every day even when you’re inside because ultraviolet rays can enter through windows and other openings. If you’re out in the sun the whole day, make sure to reapply every two hours.
Maintain a Good Skincare Routine
A good skincare routine comprises at least two things: a gentle face wash and a good moisturizer. It is recommended to wash your face to cleanse it from dirt, oil, and debris. Washing your face with a whitening and moisturizing soapcan also clear your pores and fight acne-causing bacteria.
One thing you must avoid is a harsh and stripping cleanser. You don’t want to get rid of natural oils in your skin. In fact, if it gets too dry, your skin will overcompensate by producing excessive oil. And remember, bacteria love to oil and will increase, causing dreaded acne.
After you wash your face, you need to restore the balance and moisture by applying a moisturizer. This also protects the outer layer of your skin by making sure that there are no dry and cracked spots on the surface. You can choose from a variety of types of moisturizers: gel, cream, or a mixture of both.
Exercise and a Healthy Diet
If you want to have a youthful and healthy appearance, you have to take care of yourself from the inside, too. Looking young and healthy means exercising and eating a healthy diet. It’s all about habits.
A healthy diet is a balance of fruits, vegetables, and meat. It would be best if you had meals that are rich in fiber, carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins. You can start small by having a good breakfast. Have a bowl of oatmeal and spice it up with berries.
Exercising is also a must, but you don’t have to jump into rigorous exercising routines right away. You don’t have to engage in physical activities that are too complicated or rigorous. You can work out and develop good cardio muscles by simply taking a walk. Walking is easy but healthy enough to be a primary form of exercise.
You can easily improve your heart muscles by walking. This exercise lowers your blood pressure and helps with healthy oxygen circulation. This also boosts your mental health.
You can also consider yoga. Yoga is a great way to stretch the muscles and gain flexibility. It’s also recommended for people when mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.
The fountain of youth exists in your habits. To age gracefully, you need to do these three things: apply sunscreen, maintain a good skincare routine, exercise, and have a healthy diet.
