Caring For Oily Skin
by Louise Forrest

Oily skin can be the source of some serious botheration. Having an oily skin does not only means being a little less beautiful but also a lot of botheration. An oily skin, in fact, demands a lot more care than normal and if regular attention is not given towards oily skin, results will be only disheartening. However, not many of us seriously take this as a concern and end up facing many other problems that having an oily skin type can induce. The fact might be owed to a lack of consciousness regarding oily skin and its probable cures.

It is, therefore, of primary importance to know what causes oils in the skin and what the effective ways to fight the oil secretion and its associated evils are. The simplest medical cause behind the oil formation in our skins is an oily compound called sebum. Our skin produces sebum naturally and its production differs with each of us. Some people produce excessive sebum while some are moderate in it, and some ration on sebum production. The result is varying oiliness in each of our skins. Since, excess of anything is not good for health, too much oil production in our skins can also cause some serious problems, like acne, pimples, etc.

The basic care, therefore, when it comes to caring for your oily skin includes removal of this excessive sebum production, thereby keeping the skin squeaky clean and overcoming dirt accumulation. Although, this might apparently seem extremely simple, caring for an oily skin includes much more than the removal of visible oil components from your skin. Preferably, you should clean your skin with a solution of salicylic acid (or beta-hydroxy acid) that will help you reduce sebum production largely and deter formation of acnes or spots on your skin. Cleansing your skin with salicylic acid twice or thrice daily is recommended.

Most of the cosmetic products for oily skin type are generally oil free. However, it is always recommended to check for the ingredients in each of these products before purchasing and if possible, to confirm their usage on your skin from a reputed dermatologist. Since nobody’s skin is identical with that of somebody else’s not even when two people have oily skin, it is recommended to consult a skin specialist to check for safety and reliability of a product before usage. Once confirmed by the specialist, you can resort to the various oil reduction products as available in the market.

You can pick your cleanser, moisturizer and toner from the reputable brands in the market and by following general skin hygiene, you can ensure oil reduction from your skin largely. However, remember to select oil-free products even when it comes to a moisturizer, for ensuring a healthy skin glowing with vigor and vibrancy. Sulfur based creams, Vitamin A based creams and retinoid based beauty products are generally recommended for people with oily skin. However, you might need to try quite a few products before you find the best for you.
