| Sun Protection During The Winter |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Winter
can be hard on the skin. It can leave it looking tired,
dull also very sore. As well as having to protect the
skin from the icy winds, you should also be protecting
your skin from the winter’s sun.
Protecting your skin from the sun during the winter
months is still very important. Winter is often associated
with dark skies, cold days and nights, and also snow.
But there sun is still and even though there are more
clouds in the sky, 80% of the UV rays from the sun
is still getting to us.
You can still get burnt skin from the sun even if
the ground is covered with snow. You see what happens
is that the snow reflects the light from the sun back
up so you are still able to get affected from the
sun in this way.
Even though it is still cold and the sun is still
out, people are generally not wearing shorts for instance,
and so the rest of the body is well protected. But
the face is still exposed and this is why you need
to protect it.
Many products for the skin have some form of sun
protection within them. Even products such as make
up as some level of sun protection within it already.
This is a good idea and you really should consider
buying products that have a level sun protection within
them already. If not you can simply by some sun lotion
or sun block and apply this to your face. But you
should take note of the following:
Avoid sun beds – stay away from these as they
still give off harmful UV rays. During the winter
a lot of people still use sun beds in order to give
themselves some skin colour so that they can appear
to look healthy.
This is actually very harmful to the skin and is
no different to exposing your skin to the sun itself.
You should really avoid sun beds and the best option
to get a tan is simply out of a bottle. This is the
safest option by far.
Playing winter sports – here again you may
not be thinking of the sun, but if you are going skiing
for instance, as well as there being snow, there will
still be the glaring sun and you will still need to
protect your face from it.
It is very important that you protect yourself, as
you will also need sunglasses to protect your eyes
too. As well as the eyes and the face that need to
be protected, the only other parts of the body that
should also be protected are the hands. Make sure
that you are wearing good gloves and that will keep
your hands well insulated from the icy winds.
Generally during the winter, the sun it still as
dangerous as it is during the summer months. Provided
that you follow the steps in this article and that
you cover yourself up you will be fine and there will
be nothing to be concerned up.
You just need to be aware of the potential dangers
and just take sensible steps as you would as though
it was the height of summer. |
