Is Your Skin Sore In Winter?
by Louise Forrest

When it is cold you need some high quality skin care due to the extreme cold weather that winter often brings.

Generally during the summer, the skin has to some extent a natural moisturiser. However during the winter the skin is more than likely to suffer a dryness.

It is very important to tackle this dryness in order to prevent premature ageing from taking place as well as stopping you skin from cracking, becoming chapped and also irritated.

A great deal of the time such problems that have been mentioned can lead to itching and scratching and this can actually cause your skin to break. And when this happens you are likely to be attacked by bacteria and other allergies. It is important that you keep your skin hydrated using good natural based products at all times. Doing this will allow your skin to do its main job and that is to protect you.

Even though the seasons have changed and it is winter you are still at risk from the UV rays from the sun, and this too can damage your skin, just as in the summer. So as strange it may seem, you still need to protect your skin from the sun in the winter also.

What you need to remember is that when the sun does shine on to the surface of the snow during snow, there is a reflection also. So the sun hits the snow on the earth, and this redirected to your skin. It is as though there is a mirror on the ground causing this reflection to take place. So you can see why you still need to be wearing a sun cream or sun block during the winter months too.

You often see people who are skiing wearing a sun protector and even sun glassed to protect their eyes from the sun. So you should do the same even if you are not skiing.

During the winter months you are more than likely to experience a face that is red and dry and this can be known as suffering from what is called windburn.

If you do a lot of exfoliating on your skin you should possibly adjust just how many times you actually exfoliate. Too much exfoliation can cause an irritation and when you do exfoliate you are removing dead skin cells. During the winter months, your skin cell production is not going to be as active during the summer months, so be careful when you exfoliate otherwise you may develop very sensitive skin.

You should also consider the use of a humidifier at home in order to ensure that your environment is not too moist and not too damp. This will greatly improve the look and appearance of your skin.

Even though you may feel cold, one way to warm up would be to have a hot shower. These are not very good for the skin at all as they doing nothing other than to remove essential oils which acts a protector for the skin.

Also you should use products such as moisturisers that are organic as these will benefit the skin as it leave a trace of what the skin really needs to retain its levels of moisture.
