Do You Want Teeth That Dazzle?
by Louise Forrest

Are you confident when it comes to smiling? Not a smile where your mouth is closed but a smile where you are showing off your pearly white teeth? A lot of people are ashamed to show off their teeth due to them not being as white as they should be.

It is not really your fault if you do not have teeth that do not sparkle. Just eating and drinking can leave stains on your teeth, and over time this build up results in teeth that are a little less than white. Not even careful brushing will help you.

But the older you get, the enamel on your teeth does start to wear away and this is what is revealed by the darker shade that exists underneath. But depending on your lifestyle and what you eat and drink, and even if you smoke, can cause the enamel on your teeth to fade away a lot sooner than you would hope.

So what do you do about it? Generally it is a case of teeth whitening and there are various forms of teeth whitening treatments that are commercially available. For many such treatments offer the chance to regain some confidence in having a smile that they are comfortable with. But whatever option you choose you should always consult your dentist first.

With so many treatments that are available in many and most stores you will be spoilt for choice as to what products to actually buy. But you need to be asking yourself, do these products actually work?

One such option are the whitening kits that are available literally everywhere. And these do make claims that they can make your teeth whiter again in just a matter of days. Sounds great doesn’t it and there are even great simple instructions and even a tooth shading chart so you can see your progress. It is easy to fall for these homemade kits but many do have there disadvantages.

These kits can help to reduce some stains but the main negative point is the lack of protection for the gums. You put the gel that you get into the mouth piece and then insert the mouth piece. Simple, but the mouth piece does not prevent any of the special gel from coming into contact with the gums and in the long term this can lead to even more problems.

If you are one of these that enjoys drinking and also smoking it is suggested that you just stay away from such kits. This is because a high intake of the gel that is made from hydrogen peroxide can make you vulnerable to side effects if you consume alcohol.

If you opt to have your teeth whitened at the dentist then you need to ask about such procedures and what is actually involved. Going to the dentist will be the safest option as you will be ensured that your gums will be protected during any treatment.
