| Are Whitening Toothpastes
A Waste Of Money? |
| by Louise Forrest |

Everyone is
nowadays obsessed with how their look, there are plenty of
products on the market to help nearly everyone achieve the
look that they desire. Your teeth are important as they are
on display when you smile but a lot of people do not know
what to do about teeth that have been stained.
Sadly there are a group of people who are just unable to smile
because of the condition of their teeth. And not everyone
has the money to go to an expensive cosmetic dentist to have
their teeth corrected. But an alternative may exist in the
form of teeth whitening toothpastes, but are they any good
at all?
Products such as teeth whitening toothpastes can be misleading
as people do buy these products with very high expectations
with the intention of seeing their teeth turn from a dull
colour to a dazzling white. Whilst the manufacturer may include
a before and after picture of results, such results are not
100% accurate or true.
The truth is that such toothpastes have no actual impact on
the actual colour of your teeth. People who buy such products
are expecting their teeth to actually turn several shades
whiter but this is just not a reality.
Whitening toothpastes are simply good for removing any new
stains whether this be from food, drinking and smoking. But
any stains that have been present for some time, the whitening
toothpaste will have very little impact on the colour of the
teeth themselves. So there is some element of truth in that
whitening toothpastes will keep your teeth white, but it does
not mention that they are really intended for new stains only
and this is what is often misleading.
It is just impossible for a toothpaste to do what a bleaching
can do, simply because the paste is not on the teeth for long
enough to actually make any real impact.
You should be aware that many whitening toothpastes contain
abrasives and this can cause people to gaining sensitive teeth
after a prolonged usage. Such abrasives are used to give the
paste more extra cleaning power compared to an ordinary toothpaste
for instance. This helps to the paste perform like other toothpaste,
in that they give fresh breath and remove plaque but the abrasive
is being used to act as a polish.
So what is the verdict on whitening toothpastes?
If you want whiter teeth the simplest and most effective method
is to allow your dentist to perform this task, simply because
the process will be monitored and you will be cared for. Your
teeth and also your gums will be more protected that compared
to use a whitening kit or even a harsh toothpaste.
You should only really purchase a whitening toothpaste if
you teeth are already looking good and the paste is to be
used say twice a week to help remove the build up of stains
caused by certain foods and drink. But if you teeth are already
heavily stained then you should not expect amazing results
and you will just be let down. |
