Ways to Keep Your Pearly Whites Pearly White
by Louise Forrest

Beauty products do not just include colorful lipsticks and shiny nail polish. They can include items just for your teeth as well. This does not mean products that are meant to make your teeth whiter. Though teeth whitening gained in popularity the last few years, it has become rather constant now. But instead of finding ways to bleach your teeth for a whiter smile, what about making sure to take care of your teeth right now to keep them from getting more stains? Or, more importantly, to keep them bacteria free and decay free. Teeth whitening products will not be able to help you at all if you do not have any teeth to whiten, right?

Keeping your teeth clean should be an easy step that can be added during your skin care regimen. Typically, you should give your teeth a good cleaning at least twice a day. A quick scrub down after lunch is not a bad idea either...or any time after you eat. But there is no need to panic; you do not have to be a compulsive tooth cleaner. A few times a day should be fine. So what should you, or can you use to keep your teeth bright and shiny?

Toothpaste with a toothbrush is the most common method of scrubbing teeth free of food particles and other substances that can build up on your teeth such as tartar. Finding a good toothbrush and toothpaste can seem a bit daunting with the number of choices out there. Overall, you want your toothpaste to be able to at least be a help in removing tartar and preventing cavities. If your teeth are sensitive, look for a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth. You can always ask your dentist for his opinion on what your teeth might need. When it comes to a good toothbrush, finding one that has bristles that are able to reach at least a little bit between teeth. Avoid brushing too hard as well; you do not want to damage your gums with vigorous brushing.

Because toothbrushes and toothpaste can only go so far, you should look for other means of giving your teeth an extra oomph. Floss can reach between teeth where your brush cannot go. Flossing can help scrape away loose tartar as well as help to remove any extra food particles that brushing could not get. Flossing is one thing many people neglect to do even though a food particle can lead to a cavity, which means you will have to hand over more money to your dentist than you would have for a small container of floss.

Paying attention to your whole mouth, gums included, is also quite important for healthy teeth. Your gums are where your teeth are anchored, so forgetting to treat them can lead to problems later on. Even after brushing and flossing, you may still have a few unhelpful bacteria hanging around in your mouth. Beauty products do not just offer appearances, but are meant to improve your feeling and confidence overall. In terms of your mouth, your teeth may look pretty, but your breath may not be as nice. Bad breath can be is caused by bacteria within your mouth, and though many of them are doing their job (as they occur naturally in your mouth), you may not want them around on a date. Likewise, gingivitis may be lingering in your mouth, which can affect your gums.

Both these problems can easily be taken care of by a quick use of mouthwash. Many companies who manufacture mouthwash have found methods that make it less harsh or burning and yet still very effective in taking care of bacteria and keeping your mouth fresh tasting and nice smelling. You can also try to neutralize odor by using mints, gum, or other quick breath fresheners, but there is no guarantee they can dispose of gingivitis.

Beauty products have come a long way since a bit of foundation, and good teeth cleaning habits are something that both men and women can use.
