When it comes to bathing in the sun we are all well aware of the risks. If you are not using any form of protection then you are just asking for trouble which could prove to be fatal. So what are the best methods of staying safe when in the sun shine?

Here are the best tips for getting a sun tan safely

It does not matter if you are bathing in the sun or are lying on a sun bed, the damage to the skin from harmful UV rays is the same. And if you do not use any protection then the chances of you developing skin cancer are greatly increased. All forms of skin tans are a sign that the skin has become damaged and as well as ageing much more quickly people are still in a rush to get a sun tan.

But how do you stay safe then? There are three options that you have if you want a sun tan:

bathe in the sun

go on a sun bed
3.
fake it with a lotion
 
There are no dangers with a fake tan, but there are dangers if using a sun bed or if sun bathing.

Going to the salon

Most people select the option of a visit to the local salon as they believe that this is the safest method. But in reality it is no safer than sun bathing in the sun for a long period of time. In fact using a sun bed can be just as bed as the UV levels from the sun if not worse.

Using a salon is a little safer in that you are in a controlled environment, but there are still risks associated with using a sun bed over a fake tan. Make sure that you always follow the guidelines if using a sun bed and do not stay on for too long.

As a general rule you should not have more than ten hour’s exposure from a sun bed in a one year period. But many people often abuse this and end up using them literally every day for up to an hour.

Natural sun shine

We all know that we should use sun tan lotion but many people ignore this warning as they feel that any kind of sun screen will block the sun and so prevent any kind of tanning ever happening. But this is not true. The only way not to get a tan is to actually use sun block as this will block the UV rays from the sun totally.

You should also wear hats and baggy clothes that will protect your skin but still allow you to feel cool in the intense heat from the sun. Hats should be worn as the scalp is often the first that gets burned.

Staying out of the sun when the sun is at its highest is generally a great idea, but this is when people often feel like they want to be in the sun. Be safe and wear sun protection whenever you are in the sun.
