Taking skin care seriously
by Louise Forrest

Skin cancer rates are climbing steadily nowadays and the percentage of people obtaining these diseases is alarming. Even more astounding is the knowledge that scientists are discovering about the type of people that are getting skin cancer- the wealthy.

It appears as if the richer you are the better your chances are of struggling from constant skin care issues. Why would this be? The more affluent the person the better the chances they are out in the sun enjoying leisure activities, taking in the dangerous rays while they’re at it. But it is not just the wealthy that can struggle from skin cancer; anyone can fall prey to skin care problems.

People must take skin cancer seriously in order for them to really make a difference in the results they realize. No one is ‘invincible’ when it comes to skin cancer- that much has to be realized. There are some people that tend to be more resistant to strong sun rays or other common causes of skin cancer but they are still open in a partial way to skin problems.

Part of taking skin care seriously includes using proper lotions and skin care products. If your skin is typically dry then you should be using a lotion that helps alleviate it. If you have severe acne, or even just a smaller problem, you should be using an acne curing product that will get rid of blackheads and pimples.

There are three main, or most common, types of skin cancers: Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. These three types of cancer equal over 25% of all cancers that men and women experience and as a matter of fact all three cancers increase as a person ages. Let’s take a closer look at these cancer types:

Basal cell carcinoma: This cancer is by far the most common type of cancer with over 1 million new cases each year and as long as it is detected it can be treated fairly easy. If it’s not caught soon in the process then it can be fatal and very difficult to reverse. Basal cell carcinoma is cause by too much openness to the sun on the shoulders, back, ears, neck and chest.
Squamous cell carcinoma: This is the second most common form of skin cancer and it occurs on the outer layers of the skin that are most open to the surface. Again, the sun is the main cause of squamous cell carcinoma but the good news is that because it is typically only on the surface it is easily treatable. To prevent it from happening in the first place a person should make sure to always use sun-block.
Malignant melanoma: Melanoma is a tumor that is found within the skin (although it is possible to be found on the eyes as well) and it is one of the rarest types of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are more common but malignant melanoma deadlier. The reason for this is that it is harder for labs to determine that it is there without an X-ray, even though it can achieve a pretty thick radius. Melanoma is generally found in men and most often in those located near the equator.

The skin is the largest organ on the human body and is an important tissue to take care of for obvious reasons. People only get one chance to take care of the skin that they have so it is crucial for them to use the proper steps for doing so. Skin care covers a wide array of topics, including acne, dry skin and oily skin so it may take a little time and effort to take all precautions possible, but if you do you are sure to reap the benefits of a cancer free life and one free of all other skin related problems.
