Skin Care – Some More Important Notes
by Louise Forrest

Skin provides a protection against the outside weather, and other environmental factors.

You must care for your skin and keep it clean, and healthy. It is the first defense against your body from an external environmental force. Through it, the body receives enough vitamins A and D, from the sunlight, and cleanses your body’s other systems by restoring water supply and oil for the glands.

Be aware of your skin’s susceptibility. If you stay too much in sunshine, you might get sun burn. Use an anti-sunburn cream. Keep taking fluids, fresh juice for example. That would help your body and skin to regain what is being lost through the skin in the form of heat and sweat. Sweating normally takes place when the temperatures are high, and sweating is induced by the body through the pores of the skin to cool the skin while the water evaporates. That’s taught in elementary chemical classes, and it is true. If exposed then keep moving your arms or your legs. If you are at a formal evening and you feel cold, wriggle or twist the toes of your foot inside your footwear! Don’t go too near the heater, or far away from it. Replace water or fruit juice, instead of alcohol. Remember that alcohol and wine have the propensity to make you feel warm at first, and then you will feel the cold in a different, difficult way later.

Eating is another must do for good skin and body tone. Eat less fried food, low fat milk products, lean meats, instead of red meats. Baked or steamed food is good for your skin. Eat in moderation. Obesity increases risks of developing skin problems as well.

Use proper soaps. Look at their detergent content, and their moisturizing content. Soak yourself in a tub once in a week or say two weeks. That helps the body to absorb water through the skin pores.

When bathing or changing, see whether you are having any rashes, or patches of any shade. If you feel burning sensation on your skin, try and see it. If it is reddish, wait for a day or two. If it persists, and increased pain or irritation is there, go and consult your physician.

The best way to check your skin’s vigor is to pinch your skin on the wrist. If it wrinkles and goes down slowly, you are probably dehydrated. In that case, increase intake of water. Drinking water in excess does not cause any harm. Yes, you may have to use the rest room a little more. Often, we forget to drink water in cold weather. But it must be taken in the same quantity always whether it is summer or winter. Winter is especially important for this, because due to the cold weather, you don’t feel the need for water intake.

Exercise regularly. It helps burn calories, and as you move, your skin is also being stretching and retracting. That helps the blood flow through the capillaries to your skin. That’s why after exercise or watching a match, you find that the players have a reddish look on their faces. After all, it also helps keep you healthy!

The next time you meet your physician, just ask for opinion on your skin tone. He or she may have some good things to say and do.
