There are a lot of misconceptions about skin care in all
age ranges. Some people think that skin care is for the
young; all the young girls pamper and prime their skin so
it looks fabulous and they can avoid wrinkles for much longer.
Some of these younger people think specific care for skin
is for the older folks; they do not have skin like they
used to and therefore need to keep a closer eye on it. Especially
since more problems can crop up in old age.
The truth is both are right and wrong at the same time. How,
you ask?
Saying that one age group needs to pay attention to skin care
is correct; that age group does, but at the same time, the
very group making that statement should be looking into skin
care as well. In short, everybody, men, women, young, and
old should take good care of his or her skin.
You eat healthy for your internal organs, get plenty of
calcium for stronger teeth and bones, and avoid too much
sugar and fatty foods to keep your weight at a proper level.
If you do this your whole life, then why should you not
take good care of your skin your whole life? When you were
a child, your parents took great care to keep your skin
free from irritations like diaper rash, making sure it was
dry and carefully moisturized because baby skin is so sensitive.
You may not be a baby anymore, but that also means you are
able to take care of your skin on your own. Keeping a good
moisturizer on hand is only one of the ways to help keep
your skin healthy and soft. Many factors affect your skin
and how it becomes dry, oily, or any combination of the
two. The climate you live in can have an effect, your shower
habits, what type of soap you use, what type of water you
have, what cosmetics you use, what you eat, how you exercise,
and of course, what age you are.
Teen years can mean outbreaks of acne due to hormonal changes.
A pregnant woman may experience similar outbreaks due to
hormonal changes as well, so you can already see that skin
care issues can recur even when you do not expect them to.
Just like any other preventative measures, taking care of
your skin when you are younger means you can stave off wrinkles,
fine lines, and other blemishes that can be caused by acne
or dry skin for much longer.
Skin care products are getting more and more advanced
as the years go by, and with the various types available,
there is no reason for you to be unable to find a product
that fits your skin type and lifestyle.
No matter what your age, it is important to develop a steady
skin care routine. As the years go by, you may need to add
or remove certain elements to your routine, but having one
is the first step to keeping your skin clean and healthy.
Usually a cleanser and a moisturizer will be your staple
skin care items. At some point you may need acne medication,
extra emollients for dry skin, toner for oily skin, or firming
lotion for winkles or skin that has begun to sag a little.
You should always pay close attention to your skin in
order to address any problems that may arise as you age.
Equally important is to pay attention not only to your face,
but to the rest of your body as well. When people think
of skin care, they generally assume facial skin. You arms,
legs, hands, feet, and other body parts are covered in skin
too, right? Then perhaps a good body lotion and moisturizing
body wash would benefit those areas.
As long as you accept that your skin will not always be perfect,
but are willing to give it the care it needs on a daily basis
no matter how young or old you are, you should come very close
to having the skin you want. |
