Are You Aware Of Free Radicals?
by Louise Forrest

Wherever you seem to look whether it be on the television or in a magazine there is discussion of the word free radicals. But just what exactly are these supposed little molecules actually doing to your skin?

Whilst a lot of marketing is nothing more than hype, these free radicals do actually exist and they could be causing damage to your skin even as you are reading this article.

And you thought that damage from the various seasons of the weather was plenty to deal with! With all the information about what can damage the skin there seems to be no real relief to protecting our skin at all.

So just what are these free radicals? These are simply very tiny molecules or electrons as they sometimes known as. Electrons are within an atom and are often in pairs. But sometimes this pairing can be broken up, so the atom does not have an adequate number of electrons.

So what happens is that the electron is bouncing around looking for another electron in order to become complete. It is this movement that is causing the damage to your skin.

But so what you may ask? Well when the molecules are bouncing around, they are taking electrons from the skin, and this is what is supposed to be causing the skin cells to break down. And it is this break down of cells that can lead to premature ageing.

So what do you do to stop this from happening?

The only real way to stop this from happening is to have lots and lots of antioxidants, and just from the ones that are in your skin care products. What antioxidants do is prevent electrons from stealing molecules that your skin needs in order to stay young.

Some examples of antioxidants are green as well as some non-natural creations. And these have been used for some time in order to prevent damage to the skin.
But you need to remember that antioxidant is not an actual ingredient. It is the source of an ingredient that is able to offer antioxidant properties. So there is little point looking at the ingredients and expecting to see the word antioxidant.

Antioxidants are more than likely to be found in skin care products that are likely to be organic based. This will be due to the ingredients used and the lack of chemical based ingredients that are widely found in many famous name brands.

You need to remember that any antioxidants can only attempt to stop any damage and not repair any damage that may have already been caused. There is no quick fix to get rid of wrinkles but using the right products will help to neutralize any further damage from taking place.
