Knowing The Different Hair & Skin Types
by Louise Forrest

Taking good care of your skin and hair should be a very important part of everyone's daily routine. There are a variety of different hair and skin types. Some types of skin are oily, some are dry and some are a combination of the two. Knowing what your skin type is will be the first step you need to take in order to know what types of things you need to do in order to help you keep your skin healthy and radiant.

For those with dry skin, you need to find a good moisturizing lotion and avoid harsh cleansers. Use a good, soft soap with little or no alcohol content which is very drying to the skin and will only increase the dry skin problem. A good moisturizer helps keep your skin hydrated and forms a barrier against the things that will deplete your skin of it's much needed moisture.

To help keep dry skin healthy, try a good moisturizer, drink plenty of fluids, avoid very hot baths, and when you towel dry, leave your skin a little moist and apply lotion to it.

If you have the oily skin type, you want to use a cleanser that rinses off cleanly, without leaving a residue behind. Acne is sometimes a problem for those with oily skin. If you do get acne, you want to use a good anti bacterial cleanser and wash your skin frequently. Do not pick at the spots as that can spread even more bacteria and cause damage to the affected skin. With proper cleansing and the application of a good acne cream, the problem should be short lived.

There is the same type of hair types as there are skin types, some may have dry hair while others have oily hair. Determine which type you have then decided on a good hair care routine. It's vital to take good care of your hair.

When your hair is dry, you need to feed the roots. It's recommended that you use a shampoo rich in nutrients and that is lanolin based. You might also consider a good hot oil treatment once a week, making sure that you massage the oil into your scalp to help open the pores. When brushing your hair, start at the center part and firmly brush downward to stimulate your scalp which, in turn, will help encourage the body’s natural oil to come to the scalp thus helping moisturize your hair.

On the other hand, if your hair is oily, you want to use a shampoo that is mild and made for oily hair. Wash your hair daily to keep the oil from building up. Make sure you rinse all the shampoo completely from your hair as leaving any residue behind will increase the oiliness of the hair.

Frequent brushing is not good for oily hair as it stimulates the oil glands. Use a good, soft brush to brush your hair with. A healthy diet is recommended.
