Is
Psoriasis Creating Stress In Your Life?
|
| by Louise Forrest |

Beauty
is only skin deep. But for a person who is this is not a true statement. It
goes much deeper and can have dire emotional consequences
on a patient. Hopefully people that are close to you
such as friends, family and even work colleagues have
an understanding of psoriasis and the emotional impact
that it create.
If a child is to develop psoriasis then it can be often
worse, as children, due to their lack of knowledge can
often be very cruel and can tease a child who is suffering
from the condition. The impact can be severe for children
as the early years of a persons life are important stages
in life in developing self confidence and high levels
of self esteem.
If a person does have psoriasis it is often their appearance
that is the only factor that is on their mind. Homework
and even those pursuing a career may not progress as
far as they could as they are constantly thinking about
their appearance and what others are thinking and saying.
But this does not mean that a person with psoriasis
cannot and will not be able to move forward. It just
means that more will power is required, but that will
simply mean that a better person is in the making.
has cut short their
life, whether this be at school, personal life or within
a career. Many will feel that work colleagues and even
family will just not understand the emotional impact
and pain that they are suffering from. You will always
be aware that conscious about your appearance.
Life at home can often be stressful as the biggest drawback
is to take any problems out on the people that are generally
closed to you. However one of the biggest downfalls
is that does affect having close
relationships with other people.
Since stress is a major factor, there will be times
when the skin appears to be healing and when there will
be outbreaks. This constant vicious circle means that
there will always be numerous emotional factors coming
into play such as depression and this could result to
becoming addicting to alcohol.
There is no real research on how such but not having a positive mental
state will not help and will affect others areas of
life as already discussed.
If there is someone that you know or even you are close
to that is suffering from psoriasis, who is getting
stressed by their condition, you may want to consider
and even suggest to them that they consider professional
help either from their doctor or a psychiatrist. However
if seeing a doctor and a psychiatrist at the same time,
both should be aware of what medications are being prescribed,
as there could be severe reactions when certain medications
are combined.
By treating both psoriasis and stress at the same time,
there is a strong chance that you getting the condition
into remission much quicker than expected. There are
many support groups available for and they of course are
aware of the emotional triggers that are caused by such
a skin condition.
Finally it is important to realise that such support
groups are not for the patient – they are also
for family too.
