Simply put there are really five different types of psoriasis. This article outlining the different types will make you more informed.

Plaque Psoriasis – this is the most common form with over 80% of patients have this

It is characterised by the following:

- raised and thick patches of red skin
- generally seen on the elbows and knees
- often vary in size
- has a itching and burning sensation
- begins as small red bumps which gradually enlarge and scales form
- associated with pain and discomfort within the skin

Guttate Psoriasis – this is the second most common with 10% of patients having this

It is characterised by the following:

- lesions appear on the face, scalp and also the ears
- often experience widespread lesions on the body
- can appear very quickly
- can start is plaque psoriasis and turn into guttate psoriasis
- begins as small red bumps which gradually enlarge and scales form
- associated with pain and discomfort within the skin

Pustular Psoriasis – only 5% pf patients actually have this

It is characterised by the following:

- normally confined to certain areas of the body such as the soles
- skin is often red and swollen
- lesions are dry and pus filled
- affected areas are very sore and can affect walking
- chills
- widespread areas of swollen skin
- exhaustion
- fever and itching
- high pulse
- no appetite
- weakness

Inverse Psoriasis – this is not very common at all

It is characterised by the following:

- appears in the armpits and genital area
- shiny and smooth lesions
- tender skin
- lesions irritated by contact and sweat
- found in people who are obese
- common to find another type of psoriasis on the body

Erythrodermic Psoriasis – this is the least common with no more than 2% of patients

It is characterised by the following:

- there is severe redness and shedding of the skin
- skin appears burned
- varied body temperature
- rapid heart rate
- pain and itching is very severe

So you can see there are different types of psoriasis all have there own role on a physical and mental level for the patient as well as possible duration of the condition. From other article it has been discussed that stress and various medications can all be triggers for the outbreak of psoriasis. It is important that you are aware of the various conditions and that will allow you to stay in control of your fight against psoriasis.
