Are the Doctor Fish In?
by Louise Forrest

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that leaves one with an annoying area or areas of skin that are red, itchy, and scaly looking. It is the result of skin turnover happening too quickly, in which too many layers of skin are created and not all of them can be nourished and not enough are dying and flaking off. Psoriasis can be draining physically and mentally, so perhaps you could take a vacation...to Turkey.

What is in Turkey, you ask? An interesting new method in the treatment of those with psoriasis has developed at a place called Kangal. It is there you will find hot springs filled with minerals and fish. That is right, fish. These fish are able to withstand the temperatures of the hot springs and are used to help those with psoriasis. It may sound strange, but many people feel this works out, improving their psoriasis a great deal. So how does this whole psoriasis, fish, hot spring thing work?

In the comfort of a spa with a completely relaxing atmosphere, you have several things you must do on a daily basis in order to get the most out of the hot springs and fish, which are known as doctor fish for their aid with your psoriasis. When you wake up, you are to drink three glasses of water on an empty stomach. This water is not just every day tap water, but water provided for you rich in minerals that are supposed to help your body and psoriasis.

After breakfast, you hop into the pool and remain there for around four hours. You will eventually enter the pool again so that you will have been in the water for a total of eight hours. While taking no medication, drinking no alcohol, and remaining at the spa for twenty-one days following their regimen, you are to see an improvement.

While you are in the pool, the water will help soften your skin and the fish in the pool will nibble the excess skin from the psoriasis plaques. It is a much milder way to get rid of the extra skin layers as opposed to using a scrub or other harsh abrasive. The water is also said to contain selenium, which is believed to have some effect on the development of psoriasis.

To add to this, being in Kangal means you will be at a higher altitude and give you more exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun, which is also thought to aid in the healing of the plaques. Because the fish remove the excess skin, the lesion is then exposed to both the minerals in the water as well as the sunlight. The area can also drain if it needs to.

The spa claims that this treatment will cure your psoriasis. Though this is unlikely because psoriasis is a chronic condition, it may very well help. Think about the way you go about doing this. Going to a spa, relaxing in warm water, getting a micro-massage from little fish, and in general, feeling good and being exposed to helpful minerals are definitely going to make for an improvement.

The abandonment of stress alone can help, as stress has been linked to various skin condition outbreaks. If you are living in say, New York, a big city with stressful conditions, dealing with a job you may not entirely enjoy, on top of that fussing with your psoriasis, of course it is not going to go away just like that. The spa provides you with all sorts of different elements you need in order to make your psoriasis ease up.

The problem is that not all of us can simply skip over to Turkey, so you have to take the ideas the spa provides and do what you can to use them on your own. Take whatever time you can to get away from your job and your immediate life for a while. Take a relaxing vacation where you can do virtually nothing. Ask your dermatologist for ideas about the effects selenium might have; perhaps you can find a medication or other way to utilize it.

Take in some sun; just be careful not to take in too much. You may not be able to travel all the way to Turkey, but you can find ways to minimize your psoriasis by taking a few steps to relax and baby your skin.
