How To Get The Best Results From Facial Message - Part III
by Louise Forrest

The following techniques will help you learn to give yourself a wonderfully relaxing facial massage, which will do wonders for your skin when used in conjunction with your organic skin care regimen and moderate exercise.

For scalp massage, simply work your scalp with the tips of your fingers (not your nails) while shampooing. For all steps marked 'problem area,' use only what you actually have trouble with.

Technique for light, quick massage (for longer massage, repeat entire process 3 or 4 times:
Cover your face and neck with your emollient, then starting at the base of the neck, rub your hands toward your chin one at a time for 3 strokes with each hand.
Problem area: To combat a double chin, massage the underside of the jaws with your thumbs, sliding from the middle to the outer edges of the jaw. Do this for the entire underside of the jaw and repeat.
Using both hands, place your first two fingers on your chin; slide up your jaw to you ear with slight pressure, soothing the muscle you feel there. Repeat 3 times.
Using the same fingers, starting on your chin, make very light, tiny circles moving all the way around your mouth (this skin can be stretched easily, so remember to use a light touch). Repeat 3 times.
Problem area: To combat wrinkled lips, smile and hold one corner of your lips. Use your other hand to make small circles along both the upper and lower lips edges on that side. Do the same thing for the other side and repeat.
Problem area: To combat sagging jowls, use your right hand on the left side of your face and 'roll' the muscle between your lower jaw and cheek bones, working it upward. Do the same thing, using your left hand on the right side of your jaw. Repeat.
Place the same fingers on either side of your nose with the middle fingers on the sides of the bone in your nose and the first fingers on your cheek bones. Press and hold for 2 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
Releasing the pressure, slide from this position, making tiny circles up your cheek bones. When you get near the ear, slide just below the bone and press, holding for 2 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
Now you will use your 2nd and 3rd fingers to lightly trace along your eyebrow. Place the fingers on the bridge of your nose and slide your fingers up and along your brow bone, then using only the 3rd finger, slide very lightly under your eye and around to the brow, stopping at the edge of your brow. Again, this skin can stretch very easily, so use a very light touch. Repeat 3 times.
Problem area: To combat frown lines between the brows, slightly pull the skin tight and make tiny circles in the area.
Using your 3rd finger, lightly smooth your closed eyelids, starting at the inner corner and working up and out at the same time. Again, this skin is easily stretched and requires a very light touch.
Problem area: To combat crow's feet, make diagonal lines (like railroad crossing signs) in the area with your ring fingers.
Alternating your hands and using your 1st and 2nd fingers, you are going to make diagonal lines from you brow to the hairline on your forehead. These lines should always work up and out. For instance, using your right hand, start at the inner corner of your left brow and slide your fingers toward your upper left hairline.

Do the same with your left hand - place the fingers at the right inner brow area and slide diagonally toward the upper right hairline. By alternating, I mean that you should make the stroke as described with your left hand, then the one as described for your right hand each time. Mimic these strokes across your entire forehead 2 times.
Slide your hands over your entire face, always starting at the center and sliding to the outer edges, lightly slide back down to the base of your neck.

Crossing your arms put your left hand on the right side of your neck and your right hand on the left side. Give slight squeezes to the muscles in your neck from the base to the jaw. Don't squeeze hard or directly on your windpipe. Repeat 3 times.
