How To Get The Best Results From Facial Massage - Part 1
by Louise Forrest

Any good skin care regimen requires a multitude of product options, depending on your skin type and personal preferences. One thing you should always incorporate, but no lines tend to give you instructions on is the facial massage. Manipulation of the muscles and circulatory system is one of the best things you can do for your skin and should be a part of any skin care regimen - especially an organic skin care, since you are working with nature's gifts to enhance and protect your skin.

Your circulation is the part of your system that brings moisture and nourishment to your skin as well as helping to remove waste from your skin cells. Without this system, your skin cells cannot renew themselves as they should, do not get the internal moisture needed, and do not rid themselves of waste like they should. Facial and other skin massages are extremely important in the health of this system.

By manipulating the muscles, you draw circulation to the area being massaged, encouraging the nourishing, moisturizing, and detoxifying processes.

These processes are directly related to aging of the skin and are necessary to keep your skin youthful looking. The sad thing is that most people do not know how to do proper facial massages and having it done in salons and spas is usually costly. This means that many people only end up with facial massage as a 'treat' and some never experience this at all.

By learning proper techniques (as explained in Facial Massage Part II), you can give yourself this anti-aging and overall skin health. Regular skin massages will actually relax muscles that have been tensed for long periods of time and will make your face more relaxed which in turn looks younger. You have seen the result of the tensed muscles in people who have that 'pinched' look.

The backside of this coin is that too rough and/or too frequent massages can actually lengthen your muscles, creating more wrinkles and sag in your skin's overall appearance. Always use a light touch and give yourself massages once a week and use even more care if you have sensitive skin.

Adding neck massage, scalp massage, and a moderate exercise program to your organic skin care regimen will give you even better results. Obvious results are shown in the rosy complexion, but less obvious is the fact that multiple systems are beginning to work more smoothly. You can physically feel one of these internal results if you run your fingers lightly along the sides of your neck.

You will probably feel two small lumps on either side of your neck, just beneath the jaw; these are lymph nodes. Through the massage and moderate exercise, you will notice that the size of these knots decreases. As with everything, it doesn't happen overnight, but through a regular schedule of the activities. As the nodes' size goes down, your lymphatic system increases in strength.

This system helps you fight off infection as well as helping you better handle things that your body considers to be pollutants. Allergic reactions are caused when you body perceives foreign substances as toxins. This does not mean that you will become allergy-free from massage and exercise, just that your body will be able to handle allergens more efficiently which may give you some relief. Approximately one half of your body's total lymph nodes are located in the neck.

Another result, which will show after time, is healthier hair. Normal hair growth is 1/2" per month on a yearly average with less growth in the winter and more in the summer. Given this information, you can see that visibly healthier hair will not show for quite a while, but you can rest assured that every massage and exercise session is helping send needed nutrients to the hair follicles.

Some forms of hair loss can be reversed by following scheduled exercise, as well as scheduled facial, neck, and scalp massages. Vigorous scalp massage can be done daily without harm.

Facial Massage, Part II gives you information on choosing emollients, including recipes for organic moisturizers that you can use to perform massages. Facial Massage, Part III gives in depth instructions on proper massage techniques and what to do about problem areas.

By utilizing those techniques and a moderate exercise that raises the heart rate for at least 20 minutes along with your organic skin care routine, you will see incredible benefits for your skin and its appendages (nails and hair).
