What you need to know about Oily Skin
by Louise Forrest

This type of skin happens to be quite shiny because of the oils that it produces, but at the same time those oils also result in a thick skin and a dull look. Because of the extra oil that the skin contains, it is not uncommon for this type of skin to lead to conditions like pimples and blackheads, so if you would like to avoid that type of a situation then you should learn as much as possible about this condition.

If you are interested in the concept of oily skin, then you have come to the right place. Below you will find information regarding not only the causes of oily skin, but also information on how to treat oily skin with things like proper skin care, dieting and finally suggestions for different types of naturopathic remedies that you might be interested in using to help you with your oily skin condition.

Causes

In many different cases, pinning down the exact cause for oily skin is quite difficult to do. However, depending on your age and the lifestyle that you live, one or more of the causes might stick out as being more likely than the others. Firstly, oily skin can be hereditary. Secondly, it can also be caused by lifestyle choices such as your diet, use of birth control pills, the makeup that you wear and finally what the typical weather is like in the area of the world you live. Lastly, it can also be the cause of different life events such as puberty, pregnancy and menopause.

How to care for the Skin

If you have oily skin, do not panic; it is most certainly not the end of the world. In fact, one of the biggest advantages for people that happen to have oily skin is that the oils will actually preserve their skin and ensure that it ages at a rate that is slower than normal. So there are actually some good things about your skin producing extra oils and if you care for your skin properly then you can enjoy the upsides while minimizing the downsides.

The first thing that you need to do is clean your skin often; you do not have to use anything special initially, but just some simple soap, water and scrubbing power should be able to keep your skin squeaky clean. If you do this multiple times a day then you will already be doing a large amount in order to ensure that your skin is well maintained for the future. However, at the same time, you should avoid washing your skin too much because if you do that then the continued friction against your skin will result in the production of more oil. Your goal should be to wash the skin enough to avoid blemishes and pimples, but not enough so that the oil production gets out of control. Usually, washing your face 2-3 times a day and showering once a day thoroughly should be just about the right amount.

Herbs and Dieting

If you want to take your oily skin care to the next level, then a good way to start would be through changing your diet to one that is good for oily skin. A good example of such a diet would be one that is high in proteins, but low in fat. You also want to keep fluids reasonably low because more fluids will just make it easier for your skin to produce oil. Vegetables are an excellent addition to the diet and in particular leafy greens such as lettuce are excellent if you want your diet to help you deal with the particular type of skin that you have.

You can even take it a bit further and regularly consume herbs that will help you treat your skin condition. Aloe is an excellent herb for this purpose and if you apply it on a regular basis, then you might be able to cut off any potential problems before they have had the chance to develop. While taking herbs is a good idea, it should not be the only thing that you do. Keep your skin clean on a daily basis and then once you are used to that add diet changes and herb treatments gradually into your lifestyle.
