The Mixed Blessing of Oily Skin
by Louise Forrest

When most adults realize they have oily skin, they head to the acne care aisle at their local drug store, or they find a teenager they trust and ask them what they use. What most adults don’t realize is that while they may suffer from oily skin, treatment methods for adults vary from the way that a teenager who has a completely different body type would treat it. There is even a mixed blessing of having oily skin. It’s true!

Oily skin hides age much, much better than regular or dry skin does. While it can be frustrating having to wear additional or different makeup then you normally would to hide the excess oil in your skin, older women who have oily skin are routinely told they look younger than they really are.
Oily skin hides wrinkles much better. While no one would recommend developing oily skin as a way to hide lines and wrinkles, you won’t have to worry about them even developing.
You can tan much easier and your tan will look better. By having oily skin, you will absorb sunlight in a more efficient way and you will spread the suns rays around your skin better, as well. Instead of burning on one spot and then, a few inches away, still being pale, you will tan all over and the tan will be much more even.
For those that find freckles to be an annoying skin condition, you are much less likely to develop freckles at any point in your life if you have oily skin.

Even with an impressive list of benefits like that, most people want to get rid of their oily skin. And while a certain percentage of your skin condition is linked to genetics, there are all natural ways you can deal with having oily skin. But be careful. A common mistake that the vast majority of oily skin sufferers makes is going overboard and using too many harsh cleansers.

By stripping away too much of your skin’s natural oil, you can develop a condition called seborrhea where your glands start secreting too much oil and a serious medical condition can result. By cleaning too much, too often or too harshly, you can actually make the problem worse.

You should always use a cleanser that is water-based and not oil-based. Oil based cleansers can actually make your oily skin worse, while water based ones have been shown to do a much better job.

You can also create your own all natural cleansers for your oily skin at home. A variety of fruit juices and solutions that you already have can go a long way in treating oily skin, and the best part is you know you aren’t adding any chemicals to your skin.

One popular remedy includes lime juice and mashed cucumber that you can apply to the face like a mask about 30 minutes before you scrub. The natural oil fighting ingredients will do a great job of absorbing the excess oil on the surface of your skin while leaving the oil your skin needs to be healthy alone.

Cucumber in general is a great all natural ingredient in the fight against oily skin. Many people simply take fresh cucumber slices and place them on their face for 10-15 minutes and then repeating the procedure 2-3 times before they shower. Not only does it do a number on puffy eyes, it absorbs oil like a little sponge.

Treating oily skin without damaging your fragile complexion is tough. But by sticking to natural ingredients that do a wonderful job of making your skin look great, you can rest assured that you are doing the right thing for your skin.
