Caring For Oily Hair
by Louise Forrest

It is thought that oily hair is not permanent and is normally associated with teenagers that are going through the stages of growing up. But it is also adults that can have to deal with oily hair also.

Oily that is produced by the glands on the scalp is known as sebum. This is a natural oil and the hair needs this oil to keep itself moisturised and healthy. But there are times when the glands produce too much oil and this is when the greasy hair look comes into play. Some people can this forward into their adult lives hoping that they will outgrow the condition.

A lot of people make the mistake of applying too much shampoo when they do wash or washing too many times. These steps can actually make matters worse. A lot of people just do not have the time to wash their hair several times a week, which is actually a good thing. But anything that you should use products that are ideally naturally derived.

You need to be aware of the ingredients that are used in many hair care products. Some you would never even touch with your fingers if you knew what they were, yet such ingredients are allowed to be used as part of the ingredients that you are applying to your hair. Many just take away the skins own oils that it needs and this can make matters worse.

If you hair has been damaged from for instance having a perm or even heat of some kind, then you may have oily hair as a result. If the scalp has been damaged, then the glands within the scalp are trying as much as possible to keep the scalp and the hair moisturised and so it will start producing more oil or sebum. Whilst this may seem like a disaster there are solutions for such problem.

If you can – go to a salon and get your hair looked at by a real professional. This is not the same as someone who can cut your hair, but you need someone who has a real understanding for how to treat hair that has been damaged and will have knowledge of treating such problems and not just with anything that is available.

There is nothing like a few natural remedies to help treat oily hair, and this can go a long way and there are no side effects at all. But you also need to ensure that you rinse well after each wash.

A good professional will know of what are the best products to use for treating oily hair and so they should be able to help you find something that can work for you. As well as this they may be able to suggest a hair style that is perhaps will give your hair more volume and therefore making it difficult for the hair to absorb all the excess oil so easily as is the case with fine hair for instance.

It is not easy to live with oily hair but by getting the right help it is not something that you should let worry you. You can have hair that is soft, looks great and is not greasy at all.
