Hair Care For Men
by Louise Forrest

Men have been increasingly aware of the need to take care of their bodies, not just to attract romantic partners but to remain healthy as well.

The most common and easiest way to take care of your body is to take a bath daily, and some even take two or three showers everyday to feel fresh and clean. To enhance the experience, use body wash instead of soap, as many soaps dry the skin out. Men should also exfoliate once in a while, to keep the skin looking fresh and young. With numerous bath products available in the market, choosing one that corresponds to your tastes and style won’t be hard. Soaking in the bath once in a while is also a good idea, to really hydrate the skin well.

Use a good antiperspirant or deodorant. The only way to know which product to use would be to go try several before settling on the one you feel best affords protection against body odor. Also, unscented and mildly scented ones are preferable, to avoid clashing with the scent of cologne you use. Unless the underarm product smells so darn good, of course, then you can forego using additional scents to avoid overpowering anybody who comes within two feet of you. Trim underarm hairs regularly, as these also contribute to body odor.

And don’t be afraid to put on a light coat of lotion on your body, to keep it moisturized the rest of the day. Women don’t necessarily have monopoly when it comes to using lotions, you know. And if strongly scented ones turn you off, there are some unscented ones that men can also use on a daily basis. Putting on lotion is especially a good idea during winter months, when the skin is more prone to dryness.

All the other hairs in the body, on your nose, chin, and chest, should also be trimmed regularly. When it comes to the face, being clean shaven is still the trend. Should you choose to sport a beard, be sure you are diligent enough to have it trimmed regularly by a professional barber, to avoid looking a caveman reincarnated. Pay attention to the hair on your nostrils, too. Plucking them is actually not a good idea, since the hairs inside your nose help protect against inhaling dust and other foreign matter into your respiratory tract. Trim them with blunt end scissors, instead. Do take time to do this regularly, as hairs peeking out noses are such as big turn off. There are several options for removing hair from chest, ranging from manually doing it yourself to seeing a professional for laser treatments. Choose one that suits your budget and preference.

And on weekends, have your nails trimmed, buffed, and manicured by a professional. If you’re leery of entering nail care salons, ask your barber if he can offer the extra service. There are some barbershops who do offer this kind of service, and taking the time to have a manicure is certainly worth any man’s while. Clean, neatly clipped nails say so much on how you take care of your body. And trust me, women do notice and take note of this particular detail.

And lastly, try to develop a healthy lifestyle. Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated and keep smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages to a minimum. These stuffs are bad news to your skin, and speeds up the aging process. And when you indulge in any outdoor sports or your job requires you to stay under the sun for a long time, put on some sunblock (SPF 15 or more) to protect your skin from harmful UV rays from the sun.
