| The Benefits of the
Indian Ingredient Turmeric |
| by Louise Forrest
|
| |
Many
Indian treatments contain the ingredient Turmeric. It
is more commonly known as an ingredient in curry, but
for centuries it has also been known to be used by many
Indian women in their beauty treatments. It is often
mainly used to treat skin conditions and you can buy
it in tablet form as a supplement. |
| |
| What exactly is Turmeric? |
Turmeric
is an extremely well known spice which is usually known
as an ingredient in curry. Whilst it may not be fully
recognized by most people these days, in India it is
known as a wonder plant. Its ability to be used in cooking,
in beauty treatments and as a dye, make it a must have
ingredient in every Indian kitchen.
Turmeric starts its life as a perennial plant, which
grows to be around three to five feet high. It is only
found in tropical regions, especially in India. |

| Turmeric and Its Many
Benefits |
Turmeric
is well known for its anti inflammatory properties as
it lowers histamine levels. It is also an anti oxidant
which is helpful in fighting off free radicals which
cause premature ageing. It has the ability to protect
the liver from toxins and it improves circulation by
inhibiting blood platelets from sticking together. |
| |
Most
Indian women use Turmeric during every single wash,
and it is most commonly used as an anti ageing treatment.
It is also thought that if you apply Turmeric from a
really young age, it can help to reduce hair growth
in women. This is great news if you do not want your
leg hairs to grow too frequently. However, it can also
be a negative thing if you are trying to grow your hair! |
| |
Many
people also use the ingredient in beauty treatments
due to its ability to cleanse the skin and act as an
antiseptic. This makes it ideal for use on wounds. |
| |
You can
make a good face mask out of Turmeric. All you need
is palm oil, mix them together and use the mixture as
a face mask. It will really help to keep the skin soft
and supple. Bear in mind that with this mask you are
using one tablespoon of Turmeric and around a few drops
of palm oil. You can also use coconut oil or olive oil
if you have really dry skin, instead of palm oil. |
| |
One of
the best benefits that come from Turmeric is that it
helps with pigmentation. It also maintains a healthy
PH factor within the body and it really does help to
keep the skin glowing. If it is taken internally either
in food or as a supplement, it also helps to purify
the blood which can only be a good thing! |
| |
Yet another
condition Turmeric helps with is gynecological disorders.
If you are having any pain throughout the body, Turmeric
can help. It really is known as a wonder plant in India
and it is used for almost everything. |
| |
Something
which may persuade more women to try beauty treatments
which contain Turmeric is the fact that it helps to
lower cholesterol. Lately there has been a lot of fuss
regarding cholesterol and more and more women are becoming
increasingly aware of the danger that high cholesterol
can bring. |
| |
Overall
Turmeric is by far one of the best Indian beauty treatment
ingredients that you can use, and it helps with such
a wide range of different problems. You should be able
to find some in your local health food store, but if
not there is always some available to buy online. It
is always good to at least take Turmeric supplements
if you do not decide to use any Indian treatments. |
