| How to Improve Your
Health Using Indian Ayurveda Massage |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Indian
beauty treatments are extremely popular in Salons all
over the country and Ayurveda Massage is one treatment
which is becoming more and more popular. Aiming to improve
both your health both physically and mentally, Ayurveda
massage is generally a long standing treatment which
is combined with other Indian treatments in order to
give the body the best possible benefits. So what exactly
does it involve? |
| |
| Ayurveda Massage and
the Many Benefits it promotes |
There
are quite a few Indian beauty treatments and really
they are all pretty good. There are some that are more
popular than others however and these include: |
| |
Ayurveda
massage has been practiced in India for thousands of
years and it was developed by a Vedic Civilization.
Abhyanga is one form of Ayurveda massage and it generally
involves the whole body being massaged with oil before
a morning shower or bath. |
| |
It is
fairly easy to add Abhyanga into your daily routine
as it is not difficult at all to perform. According
to experts who use Ayurveda massage, Abhyanga produces
benefits such as skin and body resistance against exhaustion
and exertion, and it can also prevent many skin conditions.
If natural peanut oil is used on the head for example,
it can help to prevent baldness; headache and it can
also prevent the hair from turning grey.
Not only that, but oils can also help a person have
better working organs, the skin on the face often becomes
brighter, and they will often sleep better too. Overall
an oil massage has an extremely soothing effect on the
skin, and on the nervous system. This makes the treatment
ideal for people whoa re either constantly stressed,
or people who worry quite a lot for whatever reason.
|
| |
| How to Perform Abhyanga |
Abhyanga
can amazingly be done either whilst you are sitting
down, or whilst you are standing. In order to do it
yourself you need to start each morning by heating up
a cup full of cured oil so that it is slightly warmer
than your body temperature, but not too hot that it
scolds you! Oil can get hot very quickly so do be careful
as you heat it up. |
| |
Begin
by massaging the head by placing a very small amount
of oil onto the scalp and massaging it vigorously. Try
not to use your fingertips for the massage, instead
try using the flat palms of your hands and the flat
surfaces of the fingers. Also, the movements should
be small and circular and in Abhyanga, more attention
is focused on the head than anywhere else in the body.
This is because the head has ‘marma points’
which generally influence other parts of the body. |
| |
Next
it is time to move onto the face and the ears using
the fingers as your massaging tool. It is also thought
that the ears influence the whole body and so spending
more time on them is often a good idea. Whilst you are
massaging the face it is a good idea to start placing
massaging oil on the rest of the body in order to give
it plenty of time to penetrate the skin. Be careful
not to massage the ears too much, but giving them a
little extra attention will not hurt. |
| |
Once
you have finished with the face and the ears, start
massaging the front and the back of the neck, as well
as the upper part of the back. Again, try not to use
the fingertips and instead use the flat palms of the
hands and the flat surface of the fingers. The arms
should be your next target and they should be massaged
vigorously. Generally use straight massaging motions
along the bones, but on the joints use circular motions.
|
| |
Overall,
Abhyanga is excellent for the body and the mind, and
if you are not confident about doing it yourself, you
could always go to your local spa or salons who usually
offer various Indian treatments. |
