| Is it Possible to
Completely Remove Hyperpigmentation from the Skin? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Hyperpigmentation
can cause various emotional problems and it is a condition
which occurs when skin cells release more pigment than
usual. The skin appears darker in affected areas, and
although it is usually harmless, Hyperpigmentation could
be a symptom of a more serious disease such as Addison’s
or Scleroderma. It is always better to get a clear diagnosis
from your doctor before seeking treatment. |
| |
If you
have got Hyperpigmentation and you are looking to get
rid of the condition, you are probably wondering if
it can be removed completely. The answer to that is,
it all depends on the severity of the condition. There
are treatments out there which claim to remove the Hyperpigmentation,
however as mentioned, it all depends on how severe the
condition is. |
| |
| Treatments Which Claim
to Remove Hyperpigmentation and How to Tell if They Are
For You |
The treatments
designed to remove Hyperpigmentation focus on eliminating
the dark areas of skin which occurs for various reasons.
Depending upon the severity of the condition, your skin
type and your individual circumstances, will all determine
which treatment you should receive. |
| |
In order
to know which treatment is better for you and which
ones you should avoid, you will need to consult a qualified
surgeon or a dermatologist to get a proper diagnosis.
Not everybody will be suited to laser surgery for example,
and not everybody will be suited to the medication ‘Hydroquinone’.
So consult a dermatologist or a surgeon to have a better
understanding of where you stand and what steps you
need to take. |
| |
Before any treatment is started you will need to make
sure that you are prepared both mentally and physically,
as often patients can become depressed after treatment
and it is important to know what you are letting yourself
in for. If you are fully prepared and you know what
is involved, you can then start to think about treatment.
Some of the most popular removal techniques include:
|
| |
 |
Hydroquinone |
This
is the most common form of Hyperpigmentation treatment
and it is usually extremely effective in either
completely removing or reducing the appearance
of the condition. It is basically a bleaching
agent and a melanin blocker, but it can take a
while to work. If you only have a mild form of
Hyperpigmentation then you can buy products over
the counter which contains this ingredient in
low strength. However, if you need it, your dermatologist
can prescribe higher doses through prescription.
This treatment may not work for darker skins and
it can often cause Hydroquinone-induced ochronosis
which is basically black speckling in the dermis.
|
 |
Hydroxy Acid Peels |
The
Hydroxy acid peels which you receive through an
aesthetician are usually fairly mild and slightly
invasive. However, your dermatologist may be able
to give you higher strength ones which are usually
a lot more penetrating. It does tend to take quite
a few treatments for the Hyperpigmentation to
fade or be removed completely, so bear in mind
that it could be quite expensive! |
 |
Physician Treatments |
The most expensive
treatments available tend to be form Physicians
who supply treatments such as Kinerase. Whilst
it may be expensive, this has had proven results
and it tends to work completely in around 24 weeks.
Overall results from all treatments will vary
depending upon your individual circumstances.
It really is important to get a full diagnosis
from your doctor or dermatologist, and that you
follow the treatment advice that they give you.
Your Hyperpigmentation may not be completely removed
but it will certainly be reduced if you do follow
treatment. Complete removal of the condition is
uncommon but it can happen. |
