Beauty Tips Index => Hyperpigmentation |
| Melanoacanthoma |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Another
form of hyperpigmentation is something known as Melanoacanthoma
and this is very rare indeed. They are essentially lesions.
In the majority of cases the lesions were initially
thought to be a threat to human life but in the majority
of cases this not the case. So just who develops this
condition and more importantly why do they?
Now this is a very rare skin condition, and it is
so rare that there have been just 30 reported cases
in the USA alone. From the reported cases it would
appear that white people are most at risk, but not
Asians or Blacks.
Also of the reported cases both males and females
were affected, but there is a big difference in the
ages of those who were affected. It normally appears
in those in the age groups of 60 and above, yet there
were some cases where people as young as 25 were being
infected.
The lesions are painful and seem to be found when
a medical examination is actually performed on the
patient. The lesions are normally black but they can
often vary in appearance. They can be present for
a few months before they are actually noticed.
Should you believe that you have this condition then
it is very important that you get a full and complete
diagnosis as soon as possible. You may need to give
a skin sample to determine the true nature of the
hyperpigmentation and to make sure that it is not
something else.
For a method of treatment, surgery is an option in
the removal of the lesions, and since the lesions
are not life threatening then the treatment is often
quick and simple. When the treatment has finished
it is very unlikely that the lesion will ever return.
So many people do not even know that they have this
condition as it not painful and it can go away by
itself. If you think that you have this condition
then you need to pay a visit to your doctor who will
be able to perform a complete diagnosis and offer
ways to treat it. |
