| Do You Have Glaucoma? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Just
like with any part of the body, the eyes too can also
experience problems and if you look after them properly,
then certain problems can be avoided. But sometimes
you can do everything to take care of yourself but there
will still be times when something will creep up on
you.
Glaucoma is a condition that is a terrible eye disease
that can strike at any time and take away a persons
sight. But whilst some conditions are easy to detect,
glaucoma certainly is not, and at that stage the conditions
cannot be reversed. So any loss of sight is generally
as a result of the damage to the optic nerve.
A form of glaucoma is known as Angle Closure Glaucoma
and its effects are much quicker also. It generally
happens when the drainage canals become blocked and
this puts an increased amount of pressure on to the
eye.
If you have this type of glaucoma you will experience
headaches as well as obvious eye pains.
When happens here is that the iris of the eye is
not very wide as normal and vision is not very clear
at all.
There are of course other types of glaucoma that
are not as common and glaucoma can also affect infants
and children. But this is very rare and if it is found
within a child it is due to the condition being inherited.
Signs that you should look for are enlarged eyes and
cloudiness within the eyes.
Who is at risk?
Anyone can develop glaucoma and at any stage also,
but people over the age of 60 generally to be more
at risk than others.
The levels of treatments that are available can also
vary and one of the most common forms of treatments
is surgery.
Whatever, you should always seek expert medical advice
on this condition. |
