Just What Is Eczema? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Any kind
of inflammation that is taking place on the skin is
referred to as eczema. Of the worlds population is suggested
that 15% are suffering from the condition.
It normally starts when a person is a child and it can
often last for life, and sadly there is no cure, but
there are a good range of treatments that can help to
control the condition.
Even though with the advances of modern science there
is still no understanding of what actually causes
eczema or way some people do not see their eczema
for years but then it suddenly reappears.
As well as factors such as allergies and stress that
can cause eczema there are also suggestions that the
immune system of the body can also be playing a part.
If a person has a dealing with a factor that can cause
a flare up, the body then releases chemicals into the
skin which is one of the contributing factors of the
skin swelling. What happens is that the body seems to
produce too many of these chemicals and when the factor
has been removed, the body can still be producing just
too many chemicals for the skin to actually cope.
Symptoms can and do vary from person and the most common
symptoms are redness, swelling and even cracking of
the skin due to the skin swelling so much.
Also there could be blisters that may also appear on
the skin and there are times when these can pop and
even spread to other areas of the skin that are not
affected by eczema.
It is both men, women and also children that can
be subject to eczema but from some people it is less
common in races of Asian and Black people. And surprisingly
it is much often more easier to diagnose a person
who is young than a person who is elderly. |
