Eczema |
Is It Nummular Eczema? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
This
is slightly different from eczema as we know it as it
generally appears as coin shaped patches on the surfaces
of the skin.
They are initially a red color but after a while they
appear to be clear and there can often be a confusion
between psoriasis and ringworm.
But again a lot of people do seem to confuse this type
of eczema with atopic dermatitis which is usually triggered
by skin allergies, and that is what is more commonly
referred to as eczema.
So what can cause this type of eczema? Well the answer
to that is “do not know”. But as usual there
are possible indications that give cause to it developing.
It is again associated with skin that is very dry and
the winter months can be the most testing for sufferers.
But generally these are considered to be potential
triggers: |
| |
| - |
clothing
that is rough on the skin |
| - |
harsh
skin products |
| - |
washing
too often in very hot water |
| - |
detergents
and washing up liquids |
| - |
skin
infections |

During
the initial stages there will be a few lesions that
are no more than tiny blisters that will appear on the
skin. New lesions will tend to develop and this will
normally be filled with pus. Typical flare up can last
a year, but it some cases a flare up can also last several
years.
At the present time there is no cure for this type of
eczema but the treatment generally follows that of the
more common types of eczema that people are associated
with.
Such treatments include the steroid based treatment
in the form of a cream, or depending on the severity,
an injection may be given.
There is also the use of directing UV light in controlled
conditions directly on to the affected areas. |
