| Getting a Handle on
your Eczema: The Natural Way! |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Chances
are, if you suffer from painful and embarrassing eczema,
your doctor has you on a strict regimen of medication
and advice on how you can reduce the chances of an outbreak.
But did you know there are a whole host of all-natural
remedies that have been shown to seriously reduce the
chances of a severe outbreak? It is true! While not
all of these treatments may work for everyone, here
are a few you can try. Most of these supplements or
treatments can be found at a health food store or at
a drugstore. |
| |
One of
the first steps every eczema patient can perform is
a slight change to the diet. With eczema, drastic changes
do not need to happen, but small, incremental chances
can help. The first thing every eczema patient should
cut out of their diet is salt. This is generally good
advice for everyone, regardless if you suffer from eczema,
but it is even more important if you do. |
| |
You should
also make an effort to avoid sour tasting foods. These
have been known to spark an outbreak. Avoid things like
sour candy and things like dill pickles. While you want
to avoid sour, bitter tasting foods can help your eczema.
And finally, if you enjoy the taste of the spice turmeric,
it has shown to help eczema in two ways. The first is
by ingesting it with your food, and the second is as
a topical treatment that can be placed directly on the
eczema itself. |
| |
There
are also a whole host of foods that are thought to trigger
outbreaks, but results may vary from person to person.
It is not uncommon to have one food that causes outbreaks
every single time in one person that does not affect
another person at all. Some of the most common outbreak
foods include seafood, peanuts, soy products, milk,
eggs and wheat. While it may be impossible to cut out
all of those products from your diet, cutting out as
many as you can may help. |
| |
Another
place that many eczema suffers forget to look is at
the detergent they use to wash their clothes. Since
your clothes spend all day rubbing against your skin,
it makes sense to realize that the perfume and dyes
used in those detergents may aggravate many common skin
ailments.
Try to choose all natural detergents with no heavy perfumes
or dyes. Common detergents that are made to wash baby
clothes can be just the right thing to soothe the suffering
of an eczema outbreak. |
| |
Working
hand in hand with your detergent is the chlorine bleach
you choose to keep your whites white. Chlorine can have
an effect on your eczema outbreaks, too. Try to avoid
using bleach on your laundry as much as possible. And
if it is summer and you have a family pool, remember,
you are getting chlorine from more sources than just
your laundry.
Even showering too much in heavy-chlorinated water can
be enough to aggravate your skin. While there is no
way to avoid bathing regularly, if you have a family
pool, try to find other ways to cool off in the summer
heat. |
| |
The last
piece of advice is a no-brainer. Keeping your home as
clean as possible not only reduces stress, which can
cause outbreaks, but it can also put a handle on dust
mites which are considered to be a trigger. One of the
smartest moves you can make is to start using a vacuum
that contains an air filter that can handle mites. |
| |
Eczema
can be one of the most frustrating and maddening conditions
to deal with because it can be almost impossible to
pinpoint all of the triggers involved. But by following
these easy steps, you can be on the path to recovery
in no time flat. |
