| The Emotional Side Of Eczema |
| by Louise Forrest |

Should
you already be dealing with eczema then you are well
aware of the problems that it can create. The skin is
sore which means that it is often dry and very itchy.
There is also the possibility that your skin may weep
too.
As you deal with eczema on a day to day basis it
is the people that are around you that need educating
as they need to try and understand the problems that
you are going through. It is the reactions and expressions
of others that can be quite hurtful and sometimes
even embarrassing.
With the attention and care that you are giving to
your skin it you may feel that you skin has suddenly
become the biggest attention of your life. Everything
in your life other than your skin will seem to have
taken a back seat and this will include family and
friends.
You may also find that forming relationships very
difficult especially if you have had eczema for a
long time and you do not want anyone to see your skin
flare up.
So given the problems of eczema what do you do, as
ignoring it is clearly not an option that you can
afford to do.
Probably the most immediate thing that you need to
do is to talk to family members and friends and tell
them of your condition. You should tell them that
they cannot catch it from you and that it is a chronic
condition that affects certain areas of the skin and
you will have good days and you will have bad days.
Then you need to inform the people with who you work.
Strangers are beyond your control and what they think
really does not matter as you will never see them
again.
The 3rd action step that you need to perform is that
you need to reduce your levels of stress. There has
been significant research to suggest that when you
are stressed you are likely to suffer an flare up
of your eczema. So it is important that you can find
ways that will help you to relax and taking up yoga
is one possibility.
The fourth course of action is not to allow your
eczema to become the focus of your life. Speak to
your doctor about what the latest treatments are available
for eczema and what results can be or have been achieved
when clinical trials were performed. |
