The Pain Of Eczema In Children |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
One of
the concerns of many parents whose children have eczema
is the use of medications that are steroid based. Rightly
so there is an area of concern here, but many parents
still do go ahead, with mild dosages to ensure that
their child is getting some relief.
You need to do is to make sure that you are able
to see a doctor with many years experience of seeing
children suffering from eczema. This way you can make
sure that any treatments given to your child will
be given in moderation and of course will be very
mild.
Many of the treatments that are standard in treating
adult eczema are also commonly used in helping to
treat younger children and also babies. There are
however new medications that are available on the
market that are steroid free and are usually given
to children under the age of three and also to some
adults.
What you must ensure that any medications that are
given are used as directed. Using too little of an
application may not be providing any real benefit
whilst using too much can create additional further
problems.
The steroid free treatments work by preventing any
triggers that can lead to swelling and redness from
actually entering the skin. At present such treatments
have not been given approval by the FDA and are not
really suggested for children under the age of three
years. But some studies suggest that such treatments
can be safely used on children who are under the age
of three years.
One other form of treatment in children is the use
of synthetic steroids but this is normally avoided
in the case of very young children. Steroid based
treatments would only be considered as a last resort,
and where it has been since that other treatments
have not delivered any real results. |
