| What Is Discoid Eczema? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
As mentioned
in other articles in this section there a number of
different types of eczema and they all affect different
parts of the body and anyone can be at risk from developing
a form of eczema.
Some of the theories as to why eczema happens include:
allergens, skin irritants, skin exposed to water for
too ling, detergents
It is annoying trying to work out what has caused
you to have eczema and then finding a suitable product
range that will help you treat the eczema type that
you have
Should you have discoid eczema then this looks lie
a coin shape plaque. If they are disturbed fluid can
seep from them as well as they being itchy and red.
This type of eczema also has a few other alternative
names but the name generally goes by the area of the
body that is actually affected. One possible name
that is nummular eczema and this due to the plaque
shape that is given off.
It can appear anywhere on the body from the lower
part of the legs to even the head, but it is common
to find it in the arms and the back. Whilst there
is no age range, it appears that people over the age
of 60 are most at risk
The red patches normally start off as blisters and
they can also increase in size if no treatment is
provided at an early stage. They can also get to be
quite scaly and there is also itching with the possibility
of fluid seeping out if the skin is very weak. Sometimes
when the eczema has cleared up there is sometimes
a dark patch left behind and these can take a long
time for them to fade away and to be as equal as your
normal skin tone.
As mentioned there is no known reason for why this
happens and the only thing that may offer some guidance
is to perform a sample of the skin for a detailed
analysis. But this too does not always provide a comprehensive
solution or indeed an answer.
If you want to get your skin back to normal then
you really do need to take extra special care of your
skin, and to avoid any kind of friction, detergents,
exposing your skin to too much water or anything that
can cause your skin to break down or that can act
as a potential irritant. There are products that make
use of an ingredient called coal-tar to help ease
the condition
Coal tar is often found in anti-dandruff shampoos
and you need to be aware that coal-tar does not have
the best smell in the world.
There are also certain prescribed drugs that you
doctor can suggest to you but you do need to take
them on a continuous basis in order to stop the eczema
from returning and being very severe. |
