Ways to Battle Dry Skin Every Day
by Louise Forrest

I am sure a lot of us know how annoying it is to have dry skin. Besides it sometimes looking unattractive it can also feel very uncomfortable. It is common among men and women of all ages.

Dry skin is sensitive and normally has a very low level of sebum. You skin will get dry because it is lacking moisture, when this happens your skin feels like it is pulling tight. This is usually after you have washed your face and have not applied any kind of moisturizer. If your skin is dry or dehydrated it will feel like it is cracking and chapping. What could also cause your skin to feel like this is wind, air-conditioning or even the weather. Your face will look pale as well.

There are many different reasons why people get dry skin and your reason might be one of the following: By your skin being exposed to all the different elements, it could just run in the family, a lack of vitamin A and B - in other words your diet, your skin could not be receiving enough lubrication from the oil glands - leaving your skin dehydrated, cosmetics, soaps, too much sun, wind or coldness. In more serious cases, your dry skin could be from an under active thyroid, from being diabetic or from certain drugs.

If you have dry skin it can be from something totally unexpected, like washing your face with normal tap water. This should be avoided because the deposits in the water dry out your skin. It is better to use mineral water. You should also not use hot water when rinsing or washing your face – cold water or luke-warm water is fine. If you use your hands to wash your face, wash your hands beforehand.

If not, you should not use a facecloth or a washcloth because they are rough and could irritate your skin. Every morning rinse your face using mineral water. The best way to do that is by getting a spray bottle and spraying the water on. Remember to clean the bottle first and not use one that had cleaning detergents in before. Once you have done that, lightly pat your face dry, do not rub it with the towel. The towel you are using should also be soft.

Baby oil is also good moisture for dry skin. After every bath or shower apply a small amount of baby oil to your face. What your skin needs is lots of gentle cleansing, oil and moisturizer, now and then a massage and very careful protection. Everyone has their own natural oils that protect their skin, but when you wash your face with normal soap and water it removes all those oils as well as surface dirt and grime. Having a milk bath every now and then is good for dry skin too.

If you wear a lot of makeup and do not take it off before going to bed, then that could very well be your problem. Be sure to remove all make up with soft cotton wool, wash your face thoroughly then apply a thin layer of moisturizer. Use a generous amount – but be careful not to use too much.

Winter is also a big instigator in dry skin. If you do not have moisturizer on your face and you go outside the cold will cause the natural oils on your skin to evaporate, leaving your skin unprotected. Normally when it is cold or raining there is wind, the wind makes the situation even worse.

If you have some spare time and the extra money use a facial mask every week
