Most of them
say that nobody is perfect, and yet, everybody is running
around, crazily trying to get what is not even possible. What
exactly is the happy medium then, between couch potato and
health-freak? How many stick thin models does the world really
need? I say that the very first step in the battle of body
care is just that: love the body you have now, for all the
wonderful things it has done for you and for what it will
do for you tomorrow.
There are countless books and experts, ready to tell you how
to , to lose weight, to tone up, but not a
single one of them will tell you how to truly care for your
body, to love it like it deserves to be loved. The only expert
that might be on the right track is Dr. Andrew Weil. His books
do not promise overnight success, or stunning weight loss
with little work. Nor does he just stop at the idea of what
you should eat, or how you should move. Dr. Weil starts with
eating and exercising as stepping stones to the bigger picture-
total health.
I like the idea that it takes good mental, spiritual and
sexual health to equal good body care. We, as humans take
better care of our cars then we do our own bodies! We wash
and wax our cars, buy the best fuel, take them to the mechanic
for the slightest noise, and yet, do we do the same for
ourselves? No, we do not! We eat junk food, lay around in
front of nonsense on TV, and ignore warning signs for months
on end, until it is too late to help whatever is wrong.
How sad!
Treat your body like a car. Give it the good fuel like
fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, (a small bit
of chocolate every now and then). Wash it with lovely scents,
and apply lotion every night. Go to the doctor for check-ups,
and for odd symptoms before they become serious. Move around
daily, even if it is only to amble around the block. Do
that and your body will want to move more and more for you,
and will reward you by not only looking better, but feeling
better, and, if you are lucky, lasting longer as well.
If your mechanic suggested an additive for your car, you
would race to the local car part store and buy it, do the
same for your body as well. Talk to your doctor about vitamins
and supplements that are right for your own body and then
for your body’s sake, take them! Be sure that you
do talk to your doctor first; however, some vitamins will
react with other medications, and in some cases will cause
pills to be ineffective, completely.
Finally, no matter what the objective is! Care for your
body, today and every day to lead a life hail and healthy. |
