The Do’s and the Don’ts to Prevent Dry Hair
by Louise Forrest

Having dry hair could be a bad nightmare. Imagine having a really bad hair day and all the troubles it may bring. Of course, you always aim to look good and appealing. Unfortunately, having dry hair would prevent you from becoming as beautiful as you intend to be. That is why, for sure, as much as possible, you would not want to develop or have dry hair. If the genes could do a lot in giving you inevitable dry hair, there are also some practical prevention measures that would help you avoid having such problematic hair conditions. Here are some practical do’s and don’ts to help you out carry the initiative in preventing having dry hair.

Shampooing the hair

Do: Do shampoo your hair at least once a day. Doing so would help you cleanse the hair follicles, which may have accumulated dirt and impurities from exposure to pollutants in the air. Choose a good shampoo brand that would be effective in cleaning and smoothening the hair. When applying shampoo, massage your scalp and stimulate the hair follicles. This would help prevent dandruff from developing and would be able to loosen up any dandruff deposits already in the scalp.

Don’t: Do not choose shampoo brands that are too harsh and that could lead to hair falling. If you notice your shampoo to cause adverse effects to the hair, find a replacement right away. Do not leave any bubbles or shampoo accumulation in the hair especially in the scalp. Wash the hair properly and thoroughly after every shampoo.

Exposure to the sun

Do: Wear a hat or a cap when going outdoors. This would help prevent drying of the hair because exposure to the harmful sunrays would be significantly prevented. When going out to swim, wear a swimming cap. If you do not want to wear hair gears, you could apply hair conditioners with sun protection factor or SPF 15 level or more. Also, after going outdoors or swimming, rinse the hair thoroughly.

Don’t: Go out outdoors unprotected. Even if the sun is not scourging, make sure your hair is protected from the impact of harmful ultraviolet rays. If you can’t help it, do not expose your hair long to the sun, as this is one of the top reasons why dry hair usually develops.

Overall body health

Do: Take a balanced diet and live a very healthy and stress-free lifestyle. Studies have shown that overall body health affects the health and condition of the hair. Thus, dry hair is most evident in people with unhealthy lifestyle. Do eat good and nutritional food lime fruits and vegetables. Do exercise regularly, drink more water and fruit juices and take a positive life disposition.

Don’t: Smoking and too much drinking of alcoholic beverages can be bad not just to the overall health but also to the health of the skin and the hair. Do not live a stressful life and do not resort to health hazard vices like taking prohibited drugs. Do not eat too much junk food and do not dehydrate yourself.
