Knowing More About Dry Hair
by Louise Forrest

Does your hair look dull and unattractively firm? Do you have regular encounters with hair problems particularly those popularly called split ends? You must be suffering from dry hair. Dry hair is the condition when your hair loses enough moisture to make it soft and beautifully glowing.

Through years of research, experts have determined that dry hair occur when the hair cuticle becomes heavily weathered. It obviously becomes porous. The cortex of dry hair is not able to retain much needed water or moisture content. Thus, the hair does not only look dry. It also feels rough and sometimes tends to become more brittle, leading to obvious breakage of strands.

It has been found that dry hair is often experienced by women. There are less men who encounter the problem compared to the number of women with dry hair. That is because conventionally, men do not usually allow their hair to go long. That is aside from the common notion that when it comes to hair care, women are more particular and are more meticulous comparatively.

Dry hair is usually characterized by dullness accompanied by rough and dry texture. Dry hair also tends to tangle very easily and becomes frizzy. Such hair is often difficult to manage and is often encountering split ends.

Several causes of dry hair have also been identified by years of thorough and careful research efforts. One major identified cause is chemical treatment applied to hair. Coloring, bleaching and perming activities done to the hair are often leading to loss of moisture. Aside from that, exposure to too much heat can also be a significant factor, like prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and to hot air from blow dryers.

Improper management of hair can also lead to dry hair. Some people just mess up with their hair. Applications of various styling products like hair sprays and gels can significantly cause development of the hair problem.

To treat dry hair, experts advice men and women to use shampoos and conditioners that are specifically and specially formulated to provide moisture to hair strands. There are numerous hair products out in the market that are directly identified to treat dry hair. Regularly applying conditioner to hair has been proven to be effective in helping replenish moisture of hair. There are also special and specific hair moisturizing products that are out in the market.

It would also help if you would regularly have your hair cut. For men and women who aim to wear their hair long, there are hair cut options that would not necessarily cut hair short. It is important to regularly cut the ends of the hair where split ends usually and normally occur. Drying the hair carefully and brushing and combing it also helps prevent any hair problem from surfacing.

Overall hygiene would be of great help. Even if dry hair is not directly attributed to poor cleanliness, experts argue that keeping the hair healthy and clean most of the time helps free it from radicals that may accumulate to lead to the problem.
