| SOME TIPS FOR DRY
DAMAGED HAIR |
| by Louise Forrest
|
| |
There
are many painless ways to revitalise your dry and damaged
hair, so if you are embarrassed of some serious frizz
and split ends, stop worrying! You do not have to pay
top dollar when it comes to hair treatments, so if you
are concerned at the price of visiting the salon to
fix your hair, stay home! You can fix it yourself with
the help of a few quality products. |
| |
Hair
becomes damaged in many different ways, some of which
you will already be aware and others you will not have
realised. For the most part, dry split ends are caused
by exposure to the sun, pollution, blow drying, poor
conditioner or shampoo, styling and even heredity. |
| |
The truth
is, your hair is sensitive and if it comes into contact
with any harsh chemicals or temperatures, it is going
to react badly by splitting, drying out or becoming
frizzy. Since that is not the look that most of us are
going for, it is necessary to look at the various ways
of fixing the damage and preventing it in the future.
|
| |
Shampoo
is the first place to look for help with those dry strands.
While for the most part we tend to focus on conditioners
as the way forward with our hair care, shampoos can
actually cause some of the damage that conditioners
must battle. For the most part, your basic clear shampoo
does not contain any strong moisturisers.
This means that every time you shampoo, your head and
hair is completely stripped of its natural oils and
left unprotected from forces like the curling iron or
a smoggy city street. If you want to get your hair clean
and make sure it is left supple at the same time, you
should use a cream based shampoo. |
| |
Conditioners
are the next important step in hair care. Building upon
a moist foundation (hopefully) left by your shampoo,
a deeply intensive round of conditioning is the best
bet you have for rebuilding damaged hair. Tiny moisturising
particles work their way into the shaft of hair and
work to smooth the dry, broken pieces so that they are
sleek and much more manageable.
For the best effects, put on a shower cap after applying
your conditioner and blow dry it - the heat opens up
your hair cuticles and lets the conditioner work even
deeper into the hair. Stylists suggest you use a leave-in
conditioner at least twice a week. |
| |
Finally,
it is important that you get your hair trimmed every
six to eight weeks to get rid of any split ends that
may spread up the hair. This is a must when trying to
prevent dry and damaged hair - keeping your locks trimmed
neatly and expertly ensures that the entire head of
hair stays supple, smooth and shiny. |
| |
If you
keep all these tips in mind, you are well on your way
to a beautiful, shiny, smooth and well moisturised head
of hair. It may seem hard to believe, but the truth
is that healthy hair is not really so hard to maintain.
Keep in mind all the pollutants and UV rays that can
harm your tresses and do your best to keep those elements
out of daily contact. |
| |
Wear
a hat, use a special application cream that protects
against damage - do what you have to do! The point is,
if you keep at it every day and constantly are on your
guard for damaging things like the summer sun and the
hair straightener, you will find it easy to keep your
hair in top form. |
