| Is Hard Water The Reason For Your Dry Hair? |
| by Louise Forrest |
| |
Having
hair that is not what is should be can be very upsetting.
If you hair is dry and damaged you will notice that
the ends are split and the hair can also break much
more easily. There are various factors that can lead
to dry hair such as the products that you use, but there
is also the environment also.
You need to also consider possible environmental
factors which may contribute to dryness of the hair.
These can be the rays from the sun, pollutions and
even the water especially if the water is hard.
People do not always realise that the water that
they use to wash their hair with can be full of chemicals,
and such chemicals can dry out the hair and in same
cases the colour of the hair can also change.
If the water in your area is hard then this can affect
how your shampoo and conditioner can work. If you
travel a lot from place to place, you will notice
a difference when you use your shampoo. And this difference
is all down to the water that you are using to wash
your hair with. In the USA alone it is believed that
nearly 85% of the population are washing in water
that is hard.
So what if the water is hard? Well this can make
the hair stand up and it can also make washing the
hard much more difficult than if the water was soft.
Also, when you rinse your shampoo, you are just applying
chemicals to your hair and scalp and this can cause
the hair to become dry even if you are using a natural
based product to treat your hair.
But on a positive note there are some products for
washing the hair that have been created for those
that are using hard water. They are quite expensive
to buy but they are very effective in helping to treat
the hair and to prevent any dryness or damage.
So if you cannot buy expensive products but live
in an area where the water is hard, what can you do
to help prevent any dryness or damage occurring to
your hair?
Well you can always collect rain water and actually
filter the water through something like a water filter
or even a coffee filter will do the trick. So instead
of using hard water, you will be using water that
has fallen from the skies and has been stripped of
any of its impurities.
Also you can also consider rinsing your hair with
either lemon juice or vinegar if you live in an area
where the water is hard. Vinegar will be more effective
than lemon in helping to treat any kind of issues
with the hair.
If you are not sure what your water type then you
are best off by contacting your water supplier and
asking them and they will be able to provide you with
the information that you need. You can also go on
the Internet and that will be able to tell you which
areas of your country are affected by hard water.
It is worth finding out as that will then tell you
if you need what appropriate steps you need to take
if you are suffering from hair that is damaged. |
