Getting Rid of Dandruff
by Louise Forrest

Dandruff is caused by the abundance of malassezia fungi in your scalp. Combined with the natural oiliness produced by the hair follicles, the fungi produce a structure that is more visible. Such formations are what is commonly referred to as dandruff and is causing a lot of embarrassment especially when you are wearing black suits or shirts. There is also unnecessary and uncomfortable itching.

The number of people affected by dandruff formation is constantly rising. Fortunately, there are numerous products and remedies that help fight off the problem. There are also measures and products that help prevent the occurrence of this hair problem. To get rid of dandruff, it would be helpful if you would consider the following measures:

1.
Use anti-dandruff shampoos aimed at getting rid of the excessive formation of flaking due to uncontrolled growth of malassezia in the scalp. To ensure the effectiveness and potency of the anti-dandruff shampoo, make sure that the product contains selenium sulfide (potent in limiting turnover of dead cells in the scalp), zinc pyrithione (help reduce the growth of fungus significantly), salicylic acid (actively scrubs off formation and accumulation of dead skin) and ketoconazole that works well against a wide array of fungi types that may develop at the scalp.
2.
Experts advise that you use three different brands of anti-dandruff shampoos. However, be reminded that you should not use the products all at the same time. You should revolve the use of the products. For example, you should use anti-dandruff shampoo 1 for a week. In the second week, use anti-dandruff shampoo 2 and on the third week the third anti-dandruff shampoo. On the week after, return to anti-dandruff shampoo 1 and do the same rotation. Doing so would help create a healthy rotation. It has been proven that rotating three different anti-dandruff shampoos in use is healthy and effective because your scalp may develop a form of resistance if you would stick to only one brand all throughout.
3.
When using anti-dandruff shampoo, remember to lather twice. The first lathering would rid your hair and scalp of flakes and dirt buildups. The second would be the one doing the works of the active ingredient. In the second lather, also remember to leave the lather about at least three to five minutes prior to rinsing off so that the scalp and hair would be able to absorb what they should absorb from the shampoo.
4.
Take a shower or bathe after every workout of strenuous physical activities that lead to sweating. Take note that sweat actively irritates the hair scalp and accelerates flaking of the dead skin cells at the scalp.
5.
Lessen your reliance on different hair styling products like gels, waxes, sprays and mousses. Though it is unimaginable styling the hair without these hair products, you can opt styling your hair by just combing. There are hairstyles that can be easily manageable even without the aid of hair styling products. Hair styling products usually contain chemicals and ingredients that lead to excessive building up of oil in the hair.
