Is Dandruff A Problem?
by Louise Forrest

In the USA alone nearly 97% of the people will at some point develop dandruff. But did you know that there is a type of dandruff that is more severe and more embarrassing than other types of dandruff? This is referred to as Seborrhoeic Dermatities.

This condition is also known as Seborrhoeic Eczema and it can lead to a greasy bran like scale on the scalp. As well as the scalp, even the nose and ears can also become infected with this condition and there will be redness and itching. Whilst this condition is generally harmless it does require more effort to get rid of and there are cases when it can become more serious.

Generally this is an inflammation of the skin and seems to appear in young adults and teenagers but it can happen at any stage also. Both men and women can develop this and so too can babies, but with correct treatment it is normally gone within just a few months.

Like any type of dandruff, it is caused by the excess build of yeast on the scalp, but here the build up is very excessive. But you should be aware that it is not in any way contagious at all.

So how do you treat it and what treatment options are available to you?

This causes dandruff because it starts on one of the oiliest areas of the body and that area is the scalp. If the condition is just mild, then it will show that you have a very bad case of dandruff. But there are times when a rash can develop and this can be very itchy and sore also. As well as this an inflammation in the ear and eyelids can also develop.

In very severe cases there is a red rash that can cover the entire face and neck and even reaching the armpits. People with HIV/AIDS are said to be more at risk from this condition than others.

The condition is sadly not short term and can last a few months if not longer, and what is needed is some kind of anti-fungal treatment to help relieve the condition and to help with any rash that may have developed.

One month is a suggested time frame to use any kind of treatment, especially if it has been detected at an early stage, and you should continue with any such treatments for maybe a week longer just to ensure that the symptoms do not come back.

From the information in this article so far it is clear that this condition is not pleasant and so you may be asking if this condition can actually be prevented from developing in the beginning.

There are some things that you may want to try in order to prevent this from happening or even happening again.

You should try to be using a anti-fungal shampoo every fortnight and leaving it to absorb into the scalp for at least five minutes before washing off.

As the condition can affect other areas of the body, you may want to apply some anti-fungal cream to the body also, and this will help to protect the body too. But you should be careful that you only use the anti-fungal shampoo no more than once a fortnight.
