Beauty Tips Index => Chemicals
In Skin Care |
| What Goes Into Your
Beauty Products? |

Even
beauty products that claim to be natural can often contain
offensive chemical components that you are not aware
of.
First of all we need to remember that just because a
substance is called a chemical that is necessarily bad
or harmful. In fact there are many natural chemicals
and we consume natural chemicals all the time in our
food.
When we are referring to skin care products that say
they are natural however, we expect those products to
be free of the substances that are not the kind generally
found in harmless natural foods and substances. The
chemicals we want to avoid in this case are the caustic,
harmful and poisonous ones that are often added to commercial
products in order to make them the right consistency,
colour or smell for mass sales.
So, how is a person who is concerned about what kinds
of products they use for themselves and their families
to do in this kind of marketplace? How are they to know
if the cream that declares itself made from avocado
and strawberries for example is really all that natural
or if it has a miniscule amount of those two items and
a whole lot of filler made from things they can't pronounce?
That is actually a little difficult, especially in places
where the listing of ingredients in skin care products
is not legislated.
Chances are if you are a consumer who wants all natural
products, you are shopping in the wrong place when you
try to find them on your regular supermarket shelf along
with all their chemical counterparts. You may be better
off going to the book store in search of some natural
skin care recipe books and then back to the supermarket
to pick up the ingredients.
If you are serious about avoiding the chemical additives
in the products you use you may also want to visit your
local naturopath. They may have some solutions for you
in your search for a more earth based solution to your
skin care needs. Your local health food store may also
be a very good place to look for beauty products that
truly live up to their claim of naturalness.
If you are online there are some very good websites
out there that can tell you exactly what the chemical
ingredients are that are in the products on the shelf.
You may decide that they are harmless or you may decide
to steer clear. Besides just researching the ingredients
however, you may find yourself wanting to learn more
about how those ingredients are obtained. If the product
does in fact contain real fruits or vegetables, were
they grown organically or were they grown in chemically
fertilized soil and sprayed with pesticides during their
growth and desiccants when they were harvested? Sure
your product contains strawberries but what chemical
residue do those so called natural strawberries bring
into the mix?
When considering the chemicals that are part of most
of the skin care products you use, you may find the
truly natural and organic lifestyle calling out to you
louder than it ever has before. If it does, do a little
research. If it doesn't, do a little research. Find
out what kinds of things you are buying and if they
really fit into what you think your life should be filled
with.
The care of your skin (and that of your family) is very
important and not something to take too lightly. If
you have strong feelings about ingredients listen to
your gut. Chemicals are all over in everything. Some
are natural and some are not. Learn about it and then
decide. |
