In Skin Care |
| Harmful Chemicals
to Avoid with Skin Care Products |
| by Louise Forrest |

Reading
the ingredients list of most skin care products is rather
difficult because not only is the print so tiny, we
know what so few of them are. Many people purchase skin
care products because they advertise that they are for
just that, skin care. But there are ingredients that
are found in skin care products that can be damaging
to your health. Some ingredients in skin care products
can even have harmful side effects that are sure to
be unpleasant. There are many skin care products that
use chemicals in them that are not good for the body,
this is especially the case after prolonged use. This
can be the case for high-end skin care products as it
is not only the cheaper skin products that can contain
harmful ingredients.
Many of the natural skin care products are better for
your skin in the long run, especially if you use them
every day. But there are good chemically based skin
care products but you should know what to look out for
when you purchase skin care products.
Here are some ingredients that you should look out for
when purchasing skin care products. |
 |
Propylene
Glycol - Propylene Glycol is a petroleum byproduct
and I mainly used for locking in humidity. There
have been studies that have shown that Propylene
Glycol can cause both liver and kidney damage
through contact with the skin. Propylene Glycol
is toxic and many times your body will reject
it with various allergic reactions. Propylene
Glycol is an active ingredient in industrial anti-freeze
as well. |
 |
DMDM
Hydrantoin - This chemical is used in cars as
anti freeze and much like Propylene can be damaging
to your body. Prolonged use of DMDM Hydrantoin
can bring about health problems. |
 |
Imidazolidinyl
and Diazolidinyl - These are used as preservative
materials in many products. These ingredients
make products last a longer time but can also
be damaging to your body. These chemicals can
cause skin inflammation and irritation. These
two chemicals are in many skin care products because
they are a popular preservative. In small doses
they are safe but after prolonged use of products
with these chemicals it can be dangerous. |
 |
Ethyl,
Methyl, Propyl and Butyl Parabens. A combination
of these materials is found in many beauty products
on the market today. They are preservatives and
inhibit microbial growth, which can extend the
life of the product. These types of products are
mainly found in beauty products but by using them
you can skin irritations. They are very cheap
ingredients so many of the higher end beauty products
do not contain these ingredients. Parabens can
cause skin irritation and cause you to have allergic
reactions because they are toxic. |
 |
Petroleum
- Petroleum is found in many skin care products
as it acts as a moisturizer. But it actually has
an adverse affect. Petroleum is also referred
to as mineral oil jelly. Petroleum coats the skin
and it harms the natural miniaturization in of
the skin. Petroleum can also stimulate the damage
from the sun and their ultra-violet rays. Many
of the cheaper skin care products on the market
use petroleum because it is very inexpensive.
If you see petroleum is an ingredient in any skin
care product stay away from it as it can cause
damage to your skin. |
These
are just a few of the harmful chemicals that can
be found in skin care products. You can also be
tested to see what chemicals you may be allergic
to. There are many healthy skin care products
on the market. Even though less expensive skin
care products can have more harmful chemicals
it does not mean more expensive ones do not. Take
some time and read the ingredients of all skin
care products and know what chemicals to avoid. |
