Are Your Body Products Safe?
by Louise Forrest

On a daily basis millions and millions of people are applying something to their bodies. This can be products used to wash, cleanse, smell good, and even moisturise. In a world of image is everything, the demand for such products is constantly increasing. The manufactures of such products are targeting men and women with the latest products that they should be using.

There used to be a time when the majority of products were aimed at just women. But times have changes and men are finding that they too are being targeted with specific products that they should be using on their skin and bodies. Most of the products for men need to be masculine, and for women these need to be feminine.

Just how many times have you been to a store looked at the variety of body products that are available and seen other people opening lids to smell the fragrance? Whilst the fragrance of a product has nothing to do with how well the product will clean the skin or hair, it is just a marketing tactic and it is a tactic that clearly works with people. But most of these fragrances are nothing more than artificial fragrances that have been added, and if used neat, people will probably discover that they are allergic to such artificial fragrances.

One of the most important things that you should do when buying personal care products is to read the label and to know exactly what you applying to your skin. Just like you know what you are eating then you should also take the same steps and know what you are using to wash your body, your face and even your hair.

Listing of ingredients generally starts with the ingredient that has been used the most in the creation of that product. If water reads first, then the product is mainly water. This process of listing ingredients is quite common.

You also need to be aware of what certain ingredients actually are – remember that not all the ingredients that are found in body products are actually good for even the product itself is available for sale for you to use on your skin. The best option that you can make and one that your body will appreciate you for is to use body products that are certified organic.

In general the buying public has been informed to become aware of what they are buying. When it comes to buying products for the body you should avoid items with the following ingredients:

Mineral Oil – this has a habit of clogging pores and actually causing blackheads on the body as well as promoting ageing to the skin

Wax – again this can clog pores as with mineral oil, and this clogging result can also cause blackheads on the body

Lanolin – this can be an allergen and therefore irritate the skin

Acetone – strips the skin of essential oils and as a result can speed up the ageing process

Artificial Colourings – these are normally toxic

Petrolatum or Petroleum – the skin is not able to absorb such ingredients and therefore attract environmental debris to the skin

Just remember to be aware of the above ingredients and make sure that they are not appearing in the body care products that you are using or are about to buy. Doing so will help to keep your skin firm and youthful.
