| Common Baby Skincare Tips
for Common Baby Skin Conditions |
| by Louise Forrest |

A newborn baby's
skin is the most sensitive. Aside from being naturally delicate,
there are external factors and initial baby skincare products
that are further contributing to the skin problems that may
already be appearing on the baby's skin. On top of that fact,
there are traditional and usual baby skincare practices that
are proven to worsen baby skin problems. Thus, there is a
pressing need to educate moms, parents and nannies about many
facts and information regarding proper and effective baby
skincare.
Before going deeper into baby skincare, it would be appropriate
if the most common baby skin problems and conditions would
be initially identified. Baby acne is on top of the list.
Experts say the skin condition can be passed on from the mom
to the baby during pregnancy. However, the good thing about
baby acne is that within a few weeks, it would naturally subside
and go away even without any medication applied.
Curis marmorata is the second common baby skin problem. It
is a condition when the baby skin is looking pinkish-blue
and is appearing like a marble. The problem is more evident
during cold weather. Red rashes common to babies is called
erythema toxicum that can appear splotchy. This type of rash
also tends to spread and transfer to other parts of the baby's
skin.
Milia appear as the very tiny whiteheads that appear on the
baby's face. Moms should not be wary about this problem because
this skin condition can easily be wiped or washed off from
the skin. Vernix, on the other hand, is that condition when
the baby skin secretes a greasy white kind of substance, coating
and protecting the skin while the baby was still in the uterus.
However, this coat tends to appear in the baby after birth,
but can disappear naturally within days or weeks.
Now to protect the baby's skin from such problems, it would
be imperative that you carry out and do natural skincare regimens.
Use natural baby skincare products to better take care of
the skin. Be careful when buying and using baby powders, shampoos
and soaps. That is because most products out in the market
have harsh elements and ingredients that can easily affect
and irritate the baby's skin.
The common and popular belief that babies should be bathed
daily is wrong and is not likely to produce good results.
Experts and dermatologists recommend just about three baby
baths every week. It is not advisable to give a baby an everyday
bath because doing so would take out and wash off the natural
oil and nutrients from the baby's skin. Baby bath can be given
at any time of the day. A few days after birth, however, sponge
baths are more advisable until the day the umbilical cord
naturally falls off. If you need to choose baby soaps, patronize
those containing coconut, olive and palm oils as main and
active ingredients.
Most of all, studies have shown that loving and caring touch
of the mom does a lot to the overall health of the baby. Regularly
inspect and touch the baby so you could monitor if there are
unlikely changes to the texture, color and overall smoothness. |
