Acne is a common skin condition that is characterized by redness, swelling and inflammation. The skin ailment is caused by the accumulation of dirt and infection causing substances in the follicle sacs beneath the layers of the skin. It is estimated that about 80 out of 1000 people at the age range of 11 years to 30 years suffer or have at least suffered at least for once the onset of this troubling and embarrassing skin problem.

Basically, acne is identified as a common skin condition that leads to the formation of spots. Observations and studies have noted that people affected by the condition usually are in the age range of about 12 years to 25 years. But it must be emphasized that men and women who are aged 30 years to 40 years are still not spared from suffering from acne. Because there are many factors that lead to the condition, there certainly would be possibilities that anyone could just contract the skin ailment due to lack of hygienic practices and misconceptions.

Acne is cited as the common factor that leads to the onset of greasy skin, red and yellow spots, whiteheads and the notorious blackheads. When inappropriately treated or left untreated, acne can also result to the formation of scars that make the texture of the face rough and not very likely. Aside from the facial area, acne also has the ability to affect the back, the neck, the arms and even the chest. Severity of acne varies depending on the site.

Through the years, people have been adopting and implementing different acne treatments. Through many years of research, various pharmaceuticals and skin care firms have successfully developed products that are known and proven to help cure the skin ailment. But still, there are several people who are making mistakes in treating acne. It can be because of lack of adequate and appropriate knowledge and awareness, but experts agree that negligence is one common factor that leads to these blunders.

Here are several of the most common wrong treatments and measure that make acne worse. Take note of the factors as they may be present in your daily diet and practices.

Squeezing and picking the spots. Medical experts warn people from doing so. That is because the practice has bee known to further cause inflammation, bleeding and more serious repercussions like infection. The activity also causes formation of small wounds, which would eventually turn into scars.

Taking ointments intended for eczema could make acne worse. Be informed that such treatments may be really effective for eczema but may be harsh and adverse for acne. Steroid creams should also be avoided.

Taking acne for whatever purpose may significantly worsen the acne. Acne is identified as one of the serious and common side effects of the treatment.

Contraceptive or birth control pills are identified to worsen acne. That is because the pills contain progesterone hormone that may further trigger the onset of the skin ailment.
