Treatment for Acne Scars
by Louise Forrest

Acne is a typical skin problem that arises when there are insufficient levels of skin hygiene and caring measures. This skin problem is occurring when the skin pores of the skin are clogged with accumulated dirt. The condition gets worse when the skin gets oily and dry. The pores tend to be larger, attracting more dirt and contaminants to get in. After some time following the clogging, the affected skin would look inflamed and reddish due to infection and irritation of the skin. Thus, acne can be technically considered a special and minor form of wound. And because acne is a wound, expect that it would be able to produce scars long after it is gone.

Acne scars is one of the pressing problems that make people resent ever having acne. You know how scars are. They are unattractive, are not good sights and are annoying. What is worse is that deep scars can potentially stay in the skin for the longest time, if not for the whole lifetime. That is why after people have found effective treatments for scars, they would soon more likely to continue a search, this time for acne scars that are affecting the overall quality and type of skin.

There are different types of existing and practiced acne scar treatments. Each of the treatments have their own advantages and are promising different hopes for the overall elimination of the troubling scars. Here are some of the most troubling of all those scar treatments.

Laser resurfacing

There are two popular types of laser resurfacing procedures widely used today. Those are the erbium and the carbon dioxide laser surfacing. Laser resurfacing basically works by burning out the outermost layer of the skin up to a specific depth. The secret of the procedure lies in the appearance and development of new skin, which would replace the old and scarred skin. The resurfacing prompts for overall healing of the scar.

Skin graft treatment

Through the procedure, skin tissues from the back of the ear are taken and are transplanted to fill the gaps present in acne scars. The skin tissue is grafted so that the scar would heal and would not be noticeable anymore. However, such a procedure always results initially to variation in the skin color and the overall texture. Such problems can be easily corrected using the laser resurfacing scheme.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are of course injected into the skin so that the surface is made smoother. The idea behind the procedure is that skin gaps and spaces brought about by scarring should be filled so that it would not be noticeable anymore. Human collagen and other derivatives of fat tissues are usually used as usual and effective dermal fillers.

Punch excision

The acne scars are expunged using a punch tool that open the skin edges so that they would stitched together. Through time, the scars that are stitched up would naturally draw together and the scar would fade permanently.

If you are annoyed by acne scars, you can easily pick a scar treatment from all of the above mentioned techniques. Be reminded however, that such procedures are usually not cheap and affordable.
