The Teenage Acne Years
by Louise Forrest

You are in your teenage years. It is an exciting time with all the opportunities being presented to you. You will agree that your teenage years are very different from your childhood years. In fact, you are probably in the best phase of your life and it can only get better from here on.

Everything is going well. You are starting to mature, you take an interest in the opposite sex, soon you will be able to drink – but then one thing happens that you hope you could avoid. You have broken out in acne.

First of all you need to not panic and realise that having acne is a very normal part of growing up. But for some, having a great complexion to having acne can become a real shock. Like many things in life that are unexpected, you could find yourself in a state of shock.

What did seem like a great dream with all the opportunities ahead of you may now seem like a haze. Well stop that thought process and understand that you are not alone. Developing acne is very normal and there is so much that you can do to treat it.

Part of life is the experience of change and this is part of growing up. As your body develops you will experience a lot of changes from the physical to the mental. Sadly, during that process, acne can be part of the package, and for many having acne can be a very upsetting experience.

Acne seems to arrive when it is least wanted, especially during the early part of life when you could be at college trying to find a boyfriend or girlfriend or when you are looking for the first climb on the career ladder. Acne can really seem to spoil your mood.

You are going to have to learn to live with your acne, even if it has spoilt your own personal party. But since acne has landed, you care going to have to cope and learn how to live with it in order to treat it effectively.

You should look at your friends or even be just walking in the high street and you will see many people who are in the same position as you. In some cases, some people will have very severe cases of acne that will make yours look mild. But acne has no over night cure. It will take time and it will take patience.

You should always do whatever you can to make you feel good. This is very important and the easiest steps are to begin by making sure that you have a healthy lifestyle and that you eat a sensible diet and drink plenty of water.

It has been mentioned that there is no connection between diet and developing acne. Whilst this is very true, eating a lot of chocolate, burgers and other forms of junk food is not going to help you. Remember – you are what you eat.

You should also get out and about. Fresh air is great for the skin and is the sun. As well as your skin getting the benefits so will your mental state and you will feel my relaxed inside which is a very important step. But you need to be careful and not get burnt if spending time outside in the sun. Dealing with acne and burnt skin will not be pleasant.

You should realise that tanned skin is more prone to developing acne, so spending too much time in the sun could go against you. If you do go out and the sun is at its hottest, you should make sure that your skin is protected with a good sun block or just wearing a hat to keep the heat away from your skin will be the best step to take.

One thing is for sure, never feel that you are alone or that you are the only person in the world suffering from acne. There is a strong chance that someone you know has experienced acne such as a friend or even a family member. Talk to them, because it will make you feel better.

Always stay positive and everything will work out. One day you will laugh at the fact that you had acne.
